DaFerra I think people may feel the ETB doesn't give them enough long term value.
Have you had success with it?

Salty_River i actually haven't, but i think that if it's too broken for Standard, it might actually be a good one to point out

DaFerra I agree that it is a broken. IMO the problem with the Mage in this format, is that as a commander people know that the purpose is limited, and it will be predictable. Unless you can constantly bounce it back (which although possible, difficult to consistently do) you could get better bang for your buck elsewhere. Check out a card called "Mistmeadow Witch."

The problem I see with Reflector Mage is that, in Pauper EDH, commanders are your most reliable win condition. They lower the required damage from 30 to 16 and the damage cannot be healed. Reflector Mage will have a hard time closing out games and blue and white are not the greatest colors for dealing damage. Its ability lends itself to control or combo by buying time sealing their commander away, and while that is a viable option there are other commanders that can fill the same niche better. If you think you could make it work I would love if you could prove me wrong as I am always glad to see PDH evolving as a format but just theorycrafting I don't see its ability outweighing the momentum your opponent could achieve even without their commander.

For anyone interested in trying Elves, take a look at my Commander 2017 updated build, Pauper Elves!!!. I've had great success with this.

As someone who will always love Allies, you do you Resolute Blademaster. I'm glad you found a format where your skills are appreciated.

MrXilas if you like allies, check this tech of mine out. Pauper Allies!!!. The bummer about allies is that there simply aren't enough, yet. Resolute Blademaster is a sick card otherwise.

Salty_River Changelings are alright filler too, but for Blademaster would probably do better as the leader of flying/menace tribal with blink effects with Allies to trigger him reliably. Either that you go all fliers and bring Blademaster out for a finisher.

So, will any of the Ixalan pirates or dinosaurs make for good commanders? I'm personally digging the Izzet pirate that loots on when you trigger Raid. I like that it's not going to end up as a spellslinger deck like every other red/blue pauper edh deck.

TheTindell179 I could see Raptor Hatchling getting some love.

MrXilas: Only bad thing about it is that it's a one time deal before you have to start paying commander tax on it. After it hits 4 to 6 cmc, I can't see the token being worth it.
September 11, 2017 11:21 a.m.
@TheTindell179: I haven't had a chance to loom at them all yet but I am wanting to try brewing Raptor Hatchling: I have been trying to make a consistent Mono-red deck for a while and this might do it, though card advantage would still be a problem. I would run it with equips that add defense and every red board wipe, it would end up being a little like a Spitemare deck. But I'm gonna look at some more tonight.

Ruffigan: just toss Slagwurm Armor on the little sucker and then you'll be in business. If you wanted to go into Boros, Blaze Commando has proved to be quite powerful.

TheTindell179 Im interested in building around Belligerent Brontodon. The idea of having Doran in the format is super exciting. It's not a cheap cast, but it's green, so it'll be manageable.

I was pretty excited to see Bladewing the Risen reprinted as uncommon and then I looked it up. There are no common black or black/red dragons.
September 12, 2017 1:10 p.m.
Salty_River what about Belligerent Brontodon + Tireless Tribe?
September 12, 2017 6:31 p.m.
After looking I think I'm most excited about Raging Swordtooth and Belligerent Brontodon. Both would have trouble with flying but both also have ways to remove them.
September 15, 2017 12:44 p.m.
I'm glad Sky Terror got up there. It's definitely gonna be a big Voltron commander in this format.

MrXilas: You ain't lying. I think Boros Swiftblade just got replaced as the best pdh Voltron commander in Boros. I still think the creatures with infect still edge it out Voltron-wise due to the ability to win the game so fast. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Viral Drake still outclasses him just because he can create his own win condition in a pinch.
September 16, 2017 9:57 a.m.
MrXilas, there are however 5 creatures in red and black that have Changeling. Still not nearly enough to make full use of Bladewing the Risen's tribal archetype, but it could still be doable if you reeeeeeeeeaaally wanted to use him.

Catonian I agree. Maybe go Voltron, but there are just so many better generals for that.

Great resource for this awesome format. Personally just finished my first brew and I love it lorescale coatl with bogles enchantress and heavy enchantments and card draw.
September 19, 2017 1:27 a.m.
Salty_River and Catonian, I know, it's just a shame we had another actual legendary in the format, but nothing that synergized with it.
