No rules on partner commanders, house rules are welcome.

Just saying, Korozda Guildmage and Sigil Captain do some serious work together. A continuous stream of 3/3's is nothing to sneeze at.

I've been playing for roughly 5 years now. I have no excuses as to why I didn't catch that...

XD It's cool man. Playing Ixalan limited I heard people say "commune with dinosaurs" assuming it was a funny name for the dinosaur version of commune with gods. The second I saw that it was actually called that I laughed for so long we went to time. The moral of the story is, it can be fun not to read cards :D

What's Rosheen Meanderer doing in Gruul? Did she wander a little bit too much?

Ruffigan says... #9

She was printed at uncommon in Iconic Masters. She seems alright, not enough X costs I think.

Ruffigan, you are truly a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks for this

I think that Ruthless Deathfang may deserve a spot in the dimir commanders on this list

November 9, 2017 11:51 a.m.

Too bad Storm Crow wasn't ever printed at uncommon.

In all seriousness, this is pretty great! I always wondered if there was a format that combined my two favorite formats.

@DaneGleesaque: Thanks! I'll add Ruthless Deathfang to the list, could be an interesting build around commander that could win through attrition.

@Austin_Smith_of_Cards: Hey, glad you discovered it. It's very fun if you can get a group to play.

Do you have Nyx Weaver on the list?

Salty_River says... #17

Drake_Khan-Ra I'm pretty sure PDH Home Base has it on theirs.

Really nice introduction to the format! I hope it will at some point get the attention and player base it deserves.
Right now I am running a Sultai Soothsayer combo/control build that did quite well in regular EDH pods so far. I've never had the opportunity to run it in a PDH pod, but it makes me wonder if Ghostly Flicker and Displace are ban-worthy. Here is my list for anyone who wants to check it out
Sultai Soothsayer PDH

@MagicBlues: Those are probably the two most viable cards for being ban worthy. The most consistent combo in the format (using Peregrine Drake) utilizes both of these and on their own they are also the most degenerate cards in the format. They also open up an entire combo archetype though, and can be used without being abused. They are definitely format warping but it's hard to say without playing a lot of testing to see if running graveyard hate/removal is an adequate counter, but the folks at PDH Homebase have looked into it.

Thanks for this primer! I wish I saw this before I started brewing. I've built a pretty solid Crypt Rats deck, as well as a commander not listed in this primer: Qumulox. I'll link my Qumulox deck list later. I don't think it's an amazing commander, but it's definitely strong. It's hard to argue with fat fliers that cheat on Commander tax.

Also I'm surprised to see no mention of Bronzebeak Moa. I've never played against that Commander, but it strikes me as one with a lot of potential.

Ruffigan says... #22

Glad you found it now. I will add Qumulox, seems interesting though not the best artifact commander. And I like Bronzebeak Moa, I have it in one of my primers for the Presence of Gond combo. I didn't add it here because I figured most players would rather try to get a similar result through Prowess but I'll add that too.

Do the rules for PDH follow normal pauper or is it just anything that was printed common? And Ghostly Flicker is not banworthy like Peregrine Drake is

November 16, 2017 2:24 p.m.

Ruffigan says... #24

Anything printed at common, so a Gatherer search will show you all available cards. And I agree that Peregrine Drake is a dumb card in PDH but Flicker/Displace enable it and other combos. Personally I wouldn't ban either because they can both be dealt with through creature removal (kill the Drake while Flicker is on the stack, kill the Mancer/Wall/Scrivener while the ability is on the stack to prevent a loop).

November 16, 2017 3:54 p.m.

MagicBlues says... #25

I think I'm with you on not banning either. I think the lack of sweepers holds even keeps the combo decks of the format in check since you are forced to run more single target removal spells, which in most cases are instants. And besides, part of the beauty of PDH is that there is currently no ban list and that the format might not even need one.
