If you print off some proxies, Mox Opal could make things get pretty out of hand with Zephyr Scribe.

I would suggest using Welding Jar instead of the relic, so at least there's some sort of functionality from it, but I don't really think it matters very much. I will definitely have to make this deck at some point and when it beats my buddies I'll laugh at them and tell them how cheap it is. Great deck, good concept, and I love the reliability of it.

@Grantley91: I had Welding Jar in here but I swapped it for Darksteel Relic for the fact that relic protects itself. Someone brought up a good point on a previous comment saying you can Retraction Helix to protect an artifact or creature. So honestly the two serve the exact same purpose save you would sacrifice one to protect another or one would protect itself. I like relic because it protects itself from cards like Vandalblast and Smash to Smithereens and you typically won't have more than one artifact on the field because you want a beefy hand to bluff with. In the end though the 0 drop artifacts are personal preference as long as they aren't creatures.

I have a similar deck to this, so the +1 comes just for the helix combo be spreading :D
Some alternative suggestions of win con I swapped the spellfist for, keeping it budget :Altar of the Brood for infinite mill at 1 colorless mana, Golem's Heart for infinite lifegain, Golem Foundry for infinite tokens (kinda expensive, but fun to see happening :P ). They are not strictly better but the combo decks tend to get a little repetitive for the player, and I usually play against two to four other players in my kitchen table environment. Also swapped the Zephyr for Mirran Spy and Battered Golem, added some myr mana dorks, so I can "maybe" do the combo at turn 3. All of those modifications are probably under a dollar, so give it a try and tell us later what you thought. :)

just realized: you are playing pauper, so most of my suggestions don't fit :'( sorry...

@alannotrickman: Actually the deck WAS pauper originally but I updated that on the 14th. Also Altar of the Brood is a decent alternate win-con for the sideboard that they may not expect. I may throw Golem's Heart in for sideboard against burn but I am gravitating against it as once I get the infinite combo off, I should be winning that turn. Personally I feel that Zephyr Scribe and Nettle Drone are strictly better in this deck than Mirran Spy and Battered Golem because they do the same thing but have additional effects. Also Battered Golem can be hit by artifact hate which is common in the metagame due to affinity.
EDIT: Forgot to comment on Golem Foundry, I will defer to my same argument against Empty the Warrens and Monastery Mentor since they can't win the game until the turn after the infinite combo which is leaving too much opportunity for the opponent to win in my opinion.

Hey, really nice deck, I was reading the disscusion thinking this was a sub par modern deck then I started to like it then I saw that it was pauper playable with just some little changes and I fell in love :D +1

+1! I love this deck...Add in Flame Fusillade!
Herbal Poultice + Zephyr Scribe + Retraction Helix + Flame Fusillade = even more infinite damage combos :D

Honestly love this deck! Have you thought about maybe swapping Elusive Spellfist for Stormchaser Mage at any point?
January 22, 2016 2:58 p.m.
@MagicalWizard: It's been a thought. I may end up trying Stormchaser Mage out when I get my hand on 3 or 4. My only worry is the casting cost making him harder to drop on T2 than Elusive Spellfist.
HOWEVER: Stormchaser Mage could be played on the turn of the infinite combo just like Grapeshot and attack the same turn.

Number 1 guys, we did it! Let's keep the conversation going!

I might actually build this soon. Depends on if I can get the cards. Maybe I'll sub some stuff and report the results here.

Jeskai Ascendancy could be loads of fun in this deck but it would require a splash of white.

Have you considered Ensoul Artifact for this? On Darksteel Relic it is an indestructible 5/5 for 1U
January 23, 2016 1:20 p.m.
@ArchFline: I've looked into possibly adding Jeskai Ascendancy however the issue besides the white splash is that the card does nothing for the combo on its own. All it does is give the combo effects to creatures that already have them in this case. I see it possibly working in a Impact Tremors + Midnight Guard + Ornithopter build more effectively.
@RealGreninja: Darksteel Ensoul Artifact is a nice aggro deck but it performs better with a deck centered around those cards as opposed to the combo here. This deck needs to win in one turn so an indestructible 5/5 isn't so helpful here. Especially considering Ensoul Artifact would be destroyed when you combo off with Darksteel Relic. I suggest you look into the darksteel set of cards and put together an indestructible artifacts deck with Darksteel Colossus as a finisher.
@Zackwind: Thanks! And remember it is only $10 without basics if you want to try it!

I understand Ensoul Artifact is more aggro, but I played a few games with this (the more expensive version) and I found it had trouble getting early footing and comboing off. Not sure if it is just me but it performed much better when I stuck a few in.
January 23, 2016 3:36 p.m.
@RealGreninja: The goal is to combo off on turn 4-6. You typically will mull until you have at least 2 lands and 3 of the combo pieces or 2 combo pieces and a Taigam's Scheming or Serum Visions. If the game goes past turn 10 you lose anyways against most modern decks so you need to fly off on one turn in order to take the win. Honestly though, I feel like Taigam's Scheming is better than Serum Visions in this deck because it lets you trash cards you dont need. Ensoul Artifact ends up costing you a turn that doesn't really end up benefitting you in the end. All it does is delay the inevitable because if you can't combo off you can't win. The deck is an all or nothing rush for the combo which is why every card in the deck has to pertain to the combo. Plus the deck's answer to early threats in board control is using Retraction Helix or Banishing Knack defensively to bounce a troublesome creature or enchantment and put them a turn behind. As long as you haven't loss by the time you combo off you will win. I can't stop you from making any changes to the deck if you build it yourself; however, you will find the deck less consistent.

Dispel should be mainboarded as a four of. You lose so many times cause you try to combo off and then lightning bolt happens.
January 23, 2016 5:32 p.m.
@Ninjadude51: Funny enough there is only 1 burn player at my lgs and not much red in the meta now that Splinter Twin is ban so I rarely see Lightning Bolt. I do mainboard it against burn in place of 1 Zephyr Scribe, 1 Nettle Drone, 2 Evolving Wilds.

Replacing Swiftwater Cliffs with Shivan Reef wouldn't increase the cost by much(compared to fetches or shocks at least), but add a decent tempo increase.
