INTRO
Described by deluxeicoff themselves as "a Crusher deck disguised as Land Destruction".
Spend the first few turns playing out Arbor Elves, Utopia Sprawls, Sakura Tribe Elders, and Caravan Vigil.
Winding Way
from Modern Horizons gives this deck much needed help, along with the now Modern legal
Spore Frog
and
Krosan Tusker
, all of which work great with the suite of land searching spells. The cards that Winding Way puts into the graveyard can help resolve
Nissa's Pilgrimage
's additional land search; Pilgrimage is a key ramp card in this deck and you want to resolve it as early as you can. Tusker adds even more deck thinning in the form of a basic land search and one card draw. Pulsing for a Tusker is a valid option if one has the mana to immediately cycle it. The amount of land searching makes one-land hands playable!
STALL AND SEARCH
Pulse of Murasa
provides life gain and a way to recover any
Ulamog's Crusher
s or
Spore Frog
s in the graveyard; recovering a Spore Frog and stalling out an extra turn or two can mean all the difference!
Sakura-Tribe Elder
is also a valid target for Pulse if you need a really need blocker or a land search. Elder's effect works great with
Caravan Vigil
too, allowing you to fulfill the Morbid clause.
RAMP AND CRUSH
The above core allows for relatively quick ramping and thins your deck of lands, helping you draw into the meat of the deck:
Mwonvuli Acid-Moss
,
Mold Shambler
and
Ulamog's Crusher
. Each is capable of removing an opponents lands, and in Shambler's case, artifacts and enchantments as well. Acid-Moss has the included benefit of putting a land from our deck straight onto the field. I do realize that the deck is low on the land destruction. I've considered
Reap and Sow
and
Reclaiming Vines
but neither are as cost effective as Acid-Moss.
Tangle Golem
,
Maul Splicer
and
Penumbra Spider
take full advantage of the acres of Forests. Golem boasts stout statistics and will often come out for free with the amount of land searching in this deck. Maul Splicer is an interesting Golem token creator from New Phyrexia that provides your Golems Trample. Pulsing for Maul Splicer to swarm the field with Trampling Golems can really put up some immense board presence to either stall into the Crushers, or even close out the game. Penumbra Spider is useful for dealing with small flyers, and the fact that it creates a Doom Blade-resistant copy of itself after death makes it a nice Pulse target when dealing with flocks of birds.
FERTILE FORESTS
This is one of my favorite decks to play. It is really exciting to race through your deck for Forests, and I always love playing Ulamog's Crusher. I enjoy that it rewards patient play and thoughtful deck building. The land destruction is really effective against multicolored decks - blow up their Refuge and Karoos! Combo pieces in the form of enchantments and pesky artifacts can also be dealt with using Mold Shambler and the sideboard.
Springbloom Druid
and
Murasa Behemoth
seem like an excellent pair for this type of deck, but I have yet to test them. I'm sure there are some great ramp cards out there I may not be aware of. The deck has some difficulty against creatures with Flying, Shroud and Hexproof. I would love any suggestions! Thank you for taking a look at my deck!
