Hey man an update for ya. I built this and it is every bit as fun as it looked. I made a few changes that still keep it budget bit I found improved functionality. I swapped the Orzhov Guildgate for Nomad Outpost and added 4 Orzhov Basilica (though those still require more testing) also I swapped 2x Sanguine Bond for 2x Exquisite Blood this gives an extra infinite life/damage combo and it combos well with Souls of the Faultless

Darkmagi1131: Thanks for the update, i'm glad you still like it ! For the infinite combo Exquisite Blood, we kind of try to avoid these if possible in my group of players, but it's definitely working :p

What is Nomad Outpost giving you over Orzhov Guildgate ? Is this for sideboard splash ?

It's a little bit sideboard splash also its a backup in case of someone burning your life total out it will help power Immolating Souleaters power. I like having a bit of redundancy in my decks and it's still a dirt cheap card

I like this. Although, I see no reason to run Orzhov Guildgate when you could run Scoured Barrens. Same thing but gets you 1 life? That can also do some synergistic things in this deck. And they are both dirt cheap.

Keep on brewing :)

Aerostar: Indeed the Scoured Barrens is strictly better, i just didn't have those when i built the deck :p

burntnoodle22: Yes like i said, any combination of Children of Korlis/Tainted Sigil can be very deadly.

Played several games tonight won 3 lost 1 vs a black/green infinite deck, worked really well! I'm gonna update the land base as I have the godless shrines and such but the overall design of the basic deck is amazing for only 30 bucks! My hats off to you karn862 for a great design!

Darkmagi1131 You're my number one fan for sure :) If you like this, you might have fun with other budget decks i've made, such as : What gobs can do without attacking, Budget creatures for a budget deck, What do you mean you can't block ?

I'll check em out. I enjoy a good Wtf deck and this one certainly qualifies! Especially after a turn 3 attack for 10 with the igniter then blow a signet to put yourself to 30. Or agressivly bidding someone on pains reward then letting em draw after they bid 17 life :)

I would be careful with the Vizkopa Guildmage/Exquisite Blood combo. infinite loops technically end in a draw because of the infinite loop that happens. unless I am just missing something entirely.

July 15, 2015 2:55 p.m.

Darkmagi1131 says... #15

There's no problem with the loop as once your opponent hits 0 they lose. Only if they have a card like Platinum Angel or Platinum Emperion will the combo fail

July 15, 2015 3:46 p.m.

herune says... #16

They have a rule that prevents that. 421.4. If the loop contains only mandatory actions, the game ends in a draw.

makes sense. didnt think that it would stop once the opponent hit 0 or less life.

Yea it was hashed out back with Sanguine Bond so it's a nice trick if your running black lifegain

I'm finding Pain's Reward to be very unreliable for life spend (you can rarely cast it if your life is lower than the opponent's). I would recommend Hex Parasite instead as a more consistent source for losing life.

karn862 says... #22

Nevm: Pain's Reward can indeed be tricky to cast but you have several strategies to limit the issues :

In any case this a fun casual deck and it won't handle well early aggro. As for Hex Parasite, it looks very similar to Immolating Souleater, except for the utility it brings. It might be a good addition, although the lack of actual "surprise" is a bit of downside.

Darkmagi1131 says... #23

Pain's Reward can also be used to hurt your opponent badly depending in how agressivly you bid and how much risk your opponent wants to take... I've had opponents bid as high as 17 life in which case I just let them draw and poped a Tainted Sigil ;) they almost rage quit at that!

July 23, 2015 7:28 p.m.

Holy **** this is amazing! I actually have most of these cards, I'm gonna build my own version of this.

July 25, 2015 6:06 p.m.

Nevm says... #25

Darkmagi1131: That's definitely true, but I've found that generally with this deck I either get the combo to go off (and do 20 damage) or I don't (and do 0 damage). Even if the opponent is at 5 life instead of 20 it often doesn't make it any easier to kill them.
