Thanks PlattBonnay. That will help me take out cards when I get the stuff coming in the mail. Did you see in the discription what was coming?

I also realize Cancel is pretty bad, but simply didn't think of Dissipate, I will see if I have one.

Eon Hub can help with skipping upkeep steps. That way you wouldn't have to pay the upkeep costs.

Id suggest for cuts empyrial armor, gwafa and spell contortion. Id add in Contamination and Bitterblossom as a lock.

Id replace Bruna with Replenish.

Replace Howl from Beyond with Hatred.

Double strike kills quick, especially with phyresis, and Battle Mastery is where to go for it.

Worship is a great last minute saviour, and as you know it can be very hard to kill a Zur, and thus equally hard to kill you.

Switch out the swiftfoot boots for Lightning Greaves.

Drop merciless eviction for Austere Command unless you are just needing the exile, in which case Id still probably go with Return to Dust or Curse of the Swine depending on the stuff that you were having issues keeping in the grave.

Phyrexian Arena, arguably the best first pull for Zur, it garuntees card advantage if zur gets killed, and if your opponents didnt manage to remove him on the first turn he was in play, you know the chances of them targeting him on the second turn hes alive will still be pretty slim as they are relying on top decking an answer. Also works wonders with Solitary Confinement

SirFowler, that is interesting. I'll look into that, thank you.

RoarMaster, Howl from Beyond is simply holding place for Demonic Tutor. Hatred is interesting, I own it and will playtest it.

Merciless Eviction will be replaced with Winds of Rath.

Battle Mastery is very intriguing, I will definitely throw that in for some testing, though I don't think I'm gonna need to be convinced.

Lightning Greaves is also on the to get list.

Thanks for the input!

If your looking for good wrath effects for zur, check out Cataclysm. Admittedly it leaves an opponents creature in play, but since Zur has no problem getting unblockability. The land destruction helps too obviously.

Also on the buffing side is Unspeakable Symbol, which when combined with Phyresis or battlemastery can be a one hit KO.

The only problem with Lightning Greaves is that if you use Zur's effect but have nothing to put in on, his ability is rendered useless. Sure you have other creatures, but the only enchantment creature you have that can be searched for is the Aegis of the Gods. Shroud was replaced with hexproof for a reason.

June 23, 2015 1:31 p.m.

RoarMaster says... #7

SirFowler Actually, when Zur tutors an aura into play, it doesnt actually target the creature it enchants. Its one of the reasons Zur is so good, being able to attach Pacifism to Giest pf Saint Traft. Thats why Diplomatic Immunity works so well.

And Shroud was replaced with hexproof because people were confused about the two. It was be because newer players thought shroud was the same thing as hexproof. Theres various articles on the matter.

PlattBonnay, SirFowler, RoarMaster, looking better?

Everyone else, thoughts/suggestions?

You have 2 Solitary Confinements in the deck. I would suggest adding in an Aegis of the Gods as a replacement. You might also want to add in a Reconnaissance so Zur doesn't die from being blocked. And lastly, you should and in cards like Freed from the Real and/or Aura of Dominion to untap Zur if needed.

DeathChant17 says... #10

Oops.

I had Aegis of the Gods in here before, but was told to take it out as it is a fragile creature.

As to Reconnaissance, I had it before, but the point is to hit my opponents with Zur.

Zur will also be unblockable the 2nd or 3rd time he swings, with lifelink, thanks to Steel of the Godhead. In case of board wipes or enchantment hate, I could add Aqueous Form as another unblockable option.

Vanishing helps keep zur from getting hit by wipes, it also helps him keep his enchantments, but is it worthy of its slot?

There is also Daybreak Coronet, giving vigilance, but I can't count on always having a counterspell handy. So Freed from the Real would be cool as another option.

Thoughts SirFowler? I can use the extra solitary confinement slot for one of those. What would you suggest removing for the other?

SirFowler says... #11

Oh, I didn't realize that you had the Aegis and Reconnaissance in before. My bad. I guess I'm not the best at Zur decks. Maybe add in some of the totem armors like Hyena Umbra or Crab Umbra in case you don't get Umbra Mystic out.

I'm not sure what you already had, so I'm just going off of what I would add.

Lol, it's cool. I don't think Reconnaissance was in last time you posted on here but I know Aegis of the Gods was.

What would you think about adding Tainted Remedy in here? Chances are someone is going to play some sort of life gain, especially those annoying Oloro and Trostani decks.

I actually jus seen it earlier today. I will be putting it on when I get one, lol. Thanks

You dont really need both Phyresis and Battle Mastery in here. Both cut the clock in half, and one of the slots could be better dedicated to either more protection or more disruption.

DeathChant17 says... #16

I have 16 counterspells. So where I should technically not have an issue countering board wipes,of any sort, I believe having a 2nd way to cut the clock in half is not a bad thing, should I ever fail to have a counterspell.

Essence Scatter will be replaced by Turn Aside. After that, unless I'm forgetting some, or unaware of some, which is likely, thats all counterspells for non-creature spells.

Maybe add another mana rock? Getting Zur out a turn or two ahead of the curve can sometimes make or break the game for you.

July 13, 2015 10 a.m.

DeathChant17 says... #18

True. I don't like having only 35 land, but so far I haven't had an issue, because of mana rocks. What do you think? More land or a talisman or 2?

July 13, 2015 7:18 p.m.

PlattBonnay says... #19

I would say Mana Crypt if you had the cash for it, but if you are thinking more economically, I'd suggest Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond (although...this one gets better with Sun Titan), Lotus Petal, or either Talisman of Progress or Talisman of Dominance. If you are trying to land Zur ahead of the curve, the cheaper the rock the better. The reason for this is because the more expensive the rock, the sooner you need to have it. So if you had a variety of 0 cost mana rocks you could draw them on turn 3 and still cast Zur ahead of the curve.

July 14, 2015 3:50 p.m.

PlattBonnay says... #20

Actually, I think that replacing Signets with Talismans is the right way to go, and this is for two reasons. First, you have life to spare, and once you have Solitary Confinement in play, the damage clause stops mattering. And second, they can be used right away on turn 2 with no other acceleration, which means you could start casting spells right away, something like one of the one mana tutors, in comparison to the Signets where you would have to wait until you have some spare mana to filter through it.

July 14, 2015 3:50 p.m.

DeathChant17 says... #21

You make a very good point, sir.I shall add those to my list of acquiring cards. I'll replace the respective signets with them and keep Orzhov Signet as there is not a talisman. Thank you very much. Also, would I do better taking out more creatures and adding Sun Titan? Like maybe go with just him and Spellskite?

July 14, 2015 4:12 p.m.

PlattBonnay says... #22

I don't know how many more creatures you want to cut, because the ones you have are all good utility bodies to have. I think you could do with cutting Umbra Mystic because you already have Vanishing and they fill the same role, the only difference is that Zur can't grab the mystic.

July 15, 2015 7:05 a.m.

DeathChant17 says... #23

True. I'll swap sun titan in umbra mystic's spot. Thank you PlattBonnay.

For LD - Armageddon, Strip Mine.

For protection - Flusterstorm, Mana Drain (speed up your deck), Pact of Negation, Spell Pierce, Cavern of Souls.

Spot removal - I would add some spot removal for noncreature permanents (enchantments and artifacts). In EDH many people use a lot of noncreature permanents. For example: Ensnaring Bridge, Nevermore, Stranglehold, Blood Moon, Treachery, Propaganda are things that could slow your deck (commander). Sneak Attack, Mimic Vat, Nevinyrral's Disk, Mycosynth Lattice are pretty scary permanents, especialy in combos. For them you could use something like Disenchant, Vindicate, Mortify.

Tutors - Vampiric Tutor one of the best tutors

Your commander really needs haste, so Hall of the Bandit Lord would be a greate addition.

Also I would speed up the deck with something of that - Ancient Tomb, Grim Monolith, Lotus Petal, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Mox Diamond, Dark Ritual. The faster you will put your commander on the battlefield (preferably with haste), the better. My deck Arcums shenanigans uses the same strategy. Turn 2 or 3 cast of commander is outstanding.

Must have - Chromatic Lantern it is very important for any 3 coloured deck, and it will protects your lands from things like Blood Moon. Sensei's Divining Top - staple in any deck.
