I can't belive that no one has pointed out BY FAR THE BEST CARD EVER PRINTED. This card has been printed in every set of magic ever and is an enabler for things such as Brainstorm, Ponder, Jace, the Mind Sculptor, AND Snapcaster Mage let me introduce you to

Daze has my vote, it's better Mental Misstep because 1) you don't have to lose life to cast it 2) It doesn't matter what the CVC of the countered card is, and the Island you return to your hand doesn't even have to be untapped, you can (for example) turn one Ponder and still be able to counter your opponents turn one spell. Another example of Daze's greatness is that if you're tapped out and unable to cast your traditional counterspells, you're still able to counter any spells that your opponent taps out to cast, as long as you have an Island. Being able to spend all of my available mana and then being able to counter my opponent's Jace, the Mind Sculptor is pretty amazing.

Necropotence for sure. The things you can do with that card are just absurd.

Yawgmoth's Will is my vote. It dominated formats, is still banned in legacy, is restricted in vintage and still sees play in the current vintage meta as a win-con despite being one-of at most.

For me I would have to go with Cavern of Souls making most tribal decks have creatures that cannot be countered is awesome, Snapcaster Mage and finally Venser, the Sojourner gets my vote.
