ducttapedeckbox Thanks, I havent play tested with the Increasing Confusion so I was just basing my thoughts on what each did and figured the potential of Mind Grind to be more appealing. Personally Ive milled for 8 with a x=3 on Mind Grind so I know it works.

ok. how do you plan on winning with this deck?

April 4, 2013 10:19 p.m.

@ NeoHazard -- I've done much much more with small X's with Mind Grind . It''s especially potent in multiplayer games.

@ ThEdUnCeCaP -- Milling? If you want to get more specific, early game control with a late-game punch from Mind Grind or Consuming Aberration to end it. The control cards happen to mill along the way too.

Hello, Ive also made a mill deck, Standard Legal, but if I were you, i'd look to putting in some Balustrade Spy 's in place of the Thought Scour . Sure the thought scour gives a 2 mill and draw but Balustrade spy is basically a Consuming Aberration 's 2nd ability for 4 mana, plus it gives your another flying defender. Also, what I would do, is, instead of Dimir Charm , is instead replace it with something like Dream Twist just because it gives you a card that mills 3 and has a flash back, so you can recast it even after you have Consuming Aberration out. If you like, look at my deck. Also, some constructive criticism would be nice for my deck. B/U Mill.

April 5, 2013 4:01 p.m.

@ Swetybalzack -- I've never liked Balustrade Spy because if your opponent top-decks a land, you've just cast an over-priced flier. Thought Scour provides me with the early-game card advantage that this deck needs to constantly apply pressure to the opponent. I also like Dimir Charm for the control it provides - and it can "mill." I'm not saying I don't like Dream Twist , I just prefer Dimir Charm over it. I'll check your deck out, but please remind me on my wall if I forget.

I built a standard mill deck based on this one, I use Death's Approach as a quick and dirty kill card, however the ruling was disputed, does the control of a creature enchantment go with who controls the enchanted creature?

here's the deck I build if you want to have a look.

Dimir killing with Mill

April 7, 2013 10:04 a.m.

@ notamardybum -- I have considered it, and it's only not included because I think that it isn't as effective as some of the other mill cards. And, with the low creature count, sometimes it would be a dead-draw if I didn't have any creatures out.

@ feyn_do_alduin -- To my knowledge, no, the enchantment remains under the control of the play who cast it regardless of the creature it is enchanted on. I will try to check your deck out later today.

You description says you use Hands of Binding but it isn't in your deck. Wouldn't that be Invisible Stalker s purpose because it is more unblockable than Jace's Phantasm ? but you do still have a lot of control so you might do ok without the Hands of Binding . and it is a lot more ironed out than my attempt at mill :)

One suggestion though; have you looked into Paranoid Delusions . There's a lot of comments in your purge update so I didn't find any mention.

April 7, 2013 11:33 p.m.

@ Cyrrus -- Yup. I forgot to change my description. Hands of Binding is really exclusively good with Invisible Stalker in my opinion. I have also considered Paranoid Delusions , but like the Hands, it's best with Invisible Stalker , which I'm not running. And, I will go check your deck out now!

I know Perfection of Milling is one of the best milling decks around, but I think my Why hit when you can mill deck is even better.

Not everyone will agree, I'm sure, but please at least tell me what you think.

with this I had problems with orzhov and rakdos that can dish out lots of small creatures early on. I replaced Cyclonic Rift with AEtherize during those cases.

April 12, 2013 10:05 a.m.

@ ygamretuta -- My sideboard is designed to help me against quick creature-based decks. Fog Bank and Mutilate especially. AEtherize is a good idea for the sideboard though.

I'm trying to find a spot in my deck for Shimian Specter , the most under used black card out there, its basically Slaughter Games , can you perhaps help me find room for it in my mill deck? Dimir killing with Mill -fnm-

I used this composition against R/G decks whose key cards are Hellrider, Vexing Devil, Rakdos Cackler, Burning Tree Emissary, Lightning Mauler and I was beaten so bad. If you put in both Fog Bank and Mutilate , what cards from the mainboard do you replace? And how do you deal with an R/G that can dish out 10 damage at 2nd or 3rd turn and has about 3-4 creatures out?

April 13, 2013 10:01 a.m.

NeoHazard says... #19

As for how to deal with turn two and three with multiple creatures is to not let that happen. You need to either be countering the spells or bouncing the creatures so they are not dealing damage. And you have to accept that you are likely going to take some damage before you can stabilize the board in your favour. The key is to know when to take the damage and when to not.

Personally for sideboarding I would like take out 2 Mind Grind +2 Mutilate and take one Lazav, and 1 Jace's Phantasm for 2 Fog Bank . But I am new to sideboarding and am not 100% that those would be the correct swaps its just what I would do.

April 13, 2013 10:36 a.m.

@ ygamretuta and NeoHazard -- Against quick decks, such as R/G and R/W, you rely on early-game control to stabilize your board position. Through this control you usually end up dumping at least 10 cards into the opponent's graveyard, making a 5/5 flying Jace's Phantasm a nice drop. Usually their creatures can't that take out.

Regarding sideboard, I usually replace the high-CMC cards that I know I won't be playing -- Mind Grind almost always comes out, as well as either a Lazav or Consuming Aberration . Lazav sometimes stays in, depending on the deck, because he can usually end up copying Aueralia, Boros Reckoner , or something else nice. But again that depends on the deck.

As others have said, I can't imagine this deck playing well against fast aggro. Maybe I'm wrong. Have you tested it against good red decks, gruul, rakdos, etc.?

@ Bauhom -- I have. That's all my meta consists of. The abundance of control allows me to stall until I can start beating them down or milling them out. The sideboard also allows for some added support.

@ Enyeto -- I lose a lot of offensive capability if I drop Jace's Phantasm . I'm not sure if Augur of Bolas is necessary.
