I was thinking that too, I also since I don't have a lot of creatures, and having a doomsday button is amazing. I threw in Rise of the Dark Realms . That plus Liliana of Dark Realms make for a good combo, I only run one of each. I am thinking of throwing both of them out though for some other things. They are kind of unnecessary.

Here's my attempt to upgrade to the Standard format.
I'm trying Macina these days and it's really fun to play. I think one of the most fun deck I ever played. And I usually win in Standard matches. Have a look!
Any suggestion would be really welcome. :)

There has been a lot of discussion and a lot of people seem to be dropping Wight of Precinct Six
. Also, I agree with someone's post on your deck, side board Crypt Incursion
. I agree with the life and exile is great, but what are you trying to accomplish? The Mill victory? Having beefy creatures on the board? I run a creature light deck.
I had a few Nightveil Specter
and a few Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker
. Got rid of them for more mill. I realized, if I wanted to hit my opponent for creature damage, then the mill mechanic has to change. I just need a few creatures on the board to block in the event I don't counter them out, kill or bounce them all.I'd also recommend dropping Grisly Spectacle
for Doom Blade
or Hero's Downfall
. The mana isn't as great for what you get, and if you want more mill, there are other good mill cards your deck isn't using.Check out my deck. I am floating around locally trying to get a flavor for what's needed. I can pull off some good wins, but I am still testing it out, and waiting to trade for some newer Theros grabs.

I think that Crypt Incursion can save your match a lot of times and give a good amount of time -if you need it- for milling the opponent deck.
My concern is about Traumatize . I haven't yet figured out if it can be a good idea to put inside the deck or not. It cost a lot so you can use it later in the match and sometimes is useless..because you got a lot of other stuff to use and mill.
About the Grisly Spectacle : I usually use it only on big bombs / creature or something empowered by an enchant so you can give a good mill and destroy a big creature. For small creature I use Dimir Charm that can be useful in other situation too with only a cost of 2. And 3x Far / Away can destroy the remaining creatures (can work with Hexproof too because there's no targeting) or slowing the opponent at early stages.
My intention is milling till I can win with a big creature empowered by the opponents graveyard or.....control the opponent till a mill victory. In those case Crypt Incursion is a good friend. And sometimes i swap 4x Wight of Precinct Six and 1x Consuming Aberration with 3x Hover Barrier and 2x Traumatize if I want a stronger milling with some early game resistance.
Thank you DimirPlagueLord for your reply. I really appreciate suggestions and comments. i will continue to test Eve & Jace - Milling time! and improving it with your ideas. :) Any suggestion would be really welcome...

Well for standard you have to play Tome Scour . Though is Thought Scour lets you draw. In most decks now days, you need draw. If I don't have the next control card in my hand I can't cast it to stay in the game. But I believe this deck would now be classified as Modern.

While waiting for my truck to be repaired the other day I walked over to the local card shop...perfect location of the auto-store, it wasn't planned like that I swear. ;P I hadn't purchased a box of Gatecrash yet, so I did and made a hasty mill deck. One of the combos I had going on that seemed to be pretty nasty, and rather budget was: Undercity Informer with Mortus Strider . Sac, return, rinse, and repeat. It gives you a blocker that mills after absorbing the damage and then you cast it again your next turn. Plus if a board wipe happens, you have another creature to drop out.
What are your thoughts about putting it in the deck?

that is an awesome little combo right there. i support this combo.

in modern, you're better off playing W/B human with that combo Undercity Informer + Lingering Souls or whatever 2 drop token card

Necrozado I have a good rated mill deck, your welcome to look and comment. It's more control based. Have been top 8 at FNM with it and I update it after playing and testing.

I'm confused as to why I never see any Traumatize cards in mill decks.
December 12, 2013 11:56 a.m.
Traumatize is too slow.. and Why use that when you could drop a Mind Grind for an a lot and pretty much kill them off?
December 12, 2013 2:58 p.m.
Or have a jace for less. Basically there are a lot of better options than traumatize for standard. In modern it can be an option, I had it as SB as there was a battle of wits deck going round but now that's rotated out I dropped it

Mind Grind to me is such a hit and miss card. If you want to use it effectively than it will also require a high CMC. At least with Traumatize it's a guaranteed amount every time. I haven't been playing magic for very long so I'm not being critical just asking questions.

Although with codex shredder I can see its viability.

GREAT! -.-I bought this deck online, everything from the sideboard to the main deck. Just got back from FNM to try out my new deck......
I didnt make past turn 4 of my 1st game before I played a Thought Scour , which my opponent was kind enough to tell me that:
!!!!! IT'S NO LONGER S-T-A-N-D-A-R-D !!!!!!!!!!! IT'S NO LONGER S-T-A-N-D-A-R-D !!!!!!!!!!! IT'S NO LONGER S-T-A-N-D-A-R-D !!!!!*!
Yea..... 11 cards of the main deck are no longer standard as of October, 2013 and a little less then half of the sideboard is also no longer valid.....
UPDATE THIS PAGE.......
December 20, 2013 11:09 p.m.
Well, we this deck is modern now. I don't think mill will be viable (or liked) anytime soon.

@ daisaku101 & dimax -- As tempest mentioned above, I haven't been active on this site in months. Regardless of my activity, it is not my responsibility to check a deck's legality before playing it in a tournament; you should have done that yourselves as well before purchasing it. I will change the label now that I am back on the site, but please use this as a reminder to double check decks before using them.
