Hey ducttapedeckbox would Mind Funeral be a better option to use than mind grind? It requires less mana

daisaku101 If you use a deck in a tournament, you should check yourself if its standard before you just copy it and plays. ducktaped has been off for months - back now I see but still. Use this link if you got doubts.http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Default.aspx

Great deck +1 From Me
It would be awesome if you would check out my elf deck Mono Green Elf Deck and see if you could give me any suggestions. I would love input from smart mtg players.

ducttapedeckbox I knew it wasn't legal in the first place, just pointing it out for daisaku101 :P.
Also, after the BNG spoils, Dimir control WILL probably be viable when BNG rotates in... so maybe with Phenax, God of Deception a mill deck slightly based around him and fatties like Consuming Aberration and Wight of Precinct Six , maybe a few walls for defense and for Phenax?
Also, I noticed how the average burn-style mill is a huge disadvantage because
- No (immediate) board impact
- Card Disadvantage
- You are tapped out on your turn.
So maybe throw in a playset of Quicken and Pilfered Plans to solve at least 2 of the problems? Wight and Abberation will take care of the rest :P.

Hello ducttapedeckbox
Im a guy from Spain who followed your deck. It was my first deck to be builded and it is for this reason that I consider you my father in MTG :D
Take a look to our new little friend, maybe it's the spark we need: Phenax, God of Deception
Thats all, my friend, good luck!
If you want to see my deck here it is: Dimir Mill Standard? [FNM Updates!]

@ sp1jp -- The deck has not been updated for the Theros block. Looking at the deck you'll notice that there are some cards from Dark Ascension and M13, which have to be replaced. I'm glad it gave you some ideas though!
@ CanibalKaiser -- I'm glad you've enjoyed the deck! Looking at Phenax, God of Deception from purely a mechanical standpoint, I like what he does. However, his CMC of 5 and the lack of permanents to fuel his devotion make me less inclined to add him.

You'd have to build a devotion deck around Phenax, God of Deception . I am working on something right now. It could be interesting.

Image a Consuming Aberration and Phenax, God of Deception out?....halarity comence!

@ DimirPlagueLord -- I am as well. It should be interseting to see how they work out, as I really like his mechanics.
@ Pyroshade -- The only problem is keeping the Aberration alive
Does anyone have suggestions to make this deck Standard legal? I'm thinking about Nightveil Specter and Pilfered Plans but I'd prefer something with a low mana cost.

No real replacement for Jace's Phantasm
Pilfered Plans is ok. I think I ran a few when I tried to do the mill deck.
Jace, Memory Adept is almost a must. You can either run Mill from spell effects, or board control to get out Consuming Aberration and Jace, Memory Adept . Not even worth doing all that to this deck when the Phenax version will be a lot more interesting.

Ty for the replacements! DimirPlagueLordI think that Grisly Spectacle could be interesting against those green fatties anyway
January 30, 2014 11:22 a.m.
You do have access to Millstone now. That might be worth considering. Also, I agree that Jace, Memory Adept is a must. The mill is so fast with him on the field

@ DimirPlagueLord -- I have to disagree and argue that Tome Scour is a poor replacement for Thought Scour . Thought Scour is in here for the draw power, and the mill it provides is a bonus. To replace it, I'd be looking for a low-costing draw card. Doom Blade can replace Grisly Spectacle , although I think the latter might stick around in the SB.
Jace, Memory Adept is also a luxury in this deck, not a necessity. It breaks the $50 budget I set at the beginning of this project, and will maintain it for the duration. And, that can be your opinion that the Phenax version will be more interesting. I've worked on this deck for too long to just scrap it for a new strategy.
@ CanibalKaiser -- I think he was suggesting to remove Grisly Spectacle in favor of Doom Blade . Both have their uses, but I think Doom Blade will find its spot in the mainboard. Hopefully I didn't misread your post here.
@ Lord007 -- Millstone is way too slow and mana-dependent. I like Codex Shredder as an alternative. Please see the above comments for a response to Jace.
January 30, 2014 8:26 p.m.
What I was thinking is a combination of Phenax, God of Deception , wall cards and Triton Tactics . Combined with removal and maybe a jace or two. All of course while keeping stuff like breaking, mind grind etc etc.
The new Siren of Silent Song might be nice too.Standard dimir mill is the rough idea I had of trying to bring the deck back to life

@ Drkblade -- Please check out my other deck, Perfection of Milling 2.0, for that idea. The Siren doesn't impress me, the mill it provides is almost irrelevant. I can see it working more in a discard deck than a mill deck.

What do you think about Wight of Precinct Six in favor of Jace's Phantasm ?
February 22, 2014 7:58 a.m.
ducttapedeckbox says... #21
@ mcimba -- It lacks utility and evasion. Early game it's pretty weak and late game it's (possibly) and moderate beat stick that is easily removed or chump blocked. It's also conditional versus decks that don't run many creatures.

Consuming Aberration pairs up with Phenax, God of Deception beautifully. You don't need devotion for Phenax. His static ability allows you to tap Consuming Aberration for ever increasing mills.
April 26, 2014 10:29 p.m.
ducttapedeckbox says... #23
@ kingpapawawa -- Please notice that this deck has been not updated for the current standard. While the abilities have good interaction, running both is impractical in a deck without any form of mana acceleration. I'd argue that Phenax is much better in a wall-oriented deck than a control-oriented deck.
April 26, 2014 11:04 p.m.
I really like where this is going! It looks great! +1. I have a modern mill deck, that I feel does very well, Consuming Aberration^3. Feel free to take a look and take anything from there!
