The deck seeks to utilize Pestilence and Crypt Rats to keep the opponent's field clear and ping them to death in the process. Obsidian Acolyte can stick around no matter how many times Pestilence is activated ensuring it never has to be sacrificed. It can also be used to protect Crypt Rats from itself. Since the deck also pings the pilot Lifelink can be used along with Crypt Rats for a potentially huge life swing or any other creature for incremental gains to ensure survival. Since the decks two main win cons can only be activated with black mana Prophetic Prism can be used to filter white mana to black mana and also draws a card upon entering. Apostle's Blessing can be used to protect Pestilence or to protect a creature. Typhoid Rats and Pharika's Chosen play defense in the early game until Pestilence and Obsidian Acolyte can be found.
