Why play Group Hug when instead you can play a Hippo Orgy?

This is a silly group hug deck that is designed to give another player a ton of 1/1 Hippo tokens using Phelddagrif 's ability. The idea is to trade hippos for favors from the table and survive in a pillow fort until a final 1-on-1 with whomever has gotten all of your hippos.

Enter the pillow fort!

Prevent your opponents from attacking you with Ghostly Prison , Norn's Annex , Peacekeeper , Baird, Steward of Argive , Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker , Reverence , Teferi's Moat , Island Sanctuary , Spear of Heliod , and Sphere of Safety .

Mitigate damage from potential attacks with Briar Patch , Godhead of Awe , Orbs of Warding , Sphere of Duty , and Thunderstaff .

Get them to go after each other instead with tricks like Bident of Thassa and Crown of Doom .

Prevent combat damage with tricks like Riot Control , Respite , or Blunt the Assault .

Maybe we should try to win?

Important note here: once you play these cards, you're no longer playing group hug. The table will notice and you will have to dole out some discipline with a few charging hippos. Drop these too early, and you're asking to take last place. This deck won't stand up against too strong of an offense, so bear that in mind before looking threatening.

Steal back the herd with effects like Domineering Will and Reins of Power .

Drop a game-changer like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite or Ezuri's Predation .

Tax them out slowly with Angel's Trumpet or Suture Priest .

Or, you can try to wreck their day with an enormous Gideon, Champion of Justice .
