Welcome to my Kaladesh Artifacts deck for standard! Despite being very creature heavy, the focus of this deck is not attacking in an ideal situation. The best (and most fun!) wins from this deck come from pinging your opponent over and over with Reckless Fireweaver with free artifact drops. I'm certainly looking for suggestions, and please upvote if you like my concept!
Reckless Fireweaver is really the focus of this deck. The best games see him in the starting hand, and a perfect game would see more than one in play. I've succeeded in doing more than 20 damage in one turn from artifact drops.
Herald of Kozilek
and Foundry Inspector to reduce artifact costs. Having some combination of at least 3 of these guys on the board is optimal.
Panharmonicon for obvious reasons. Multiplying the effects of the fireweaver and other ETBs turns some fun into more fun!
Pia Nalaar because besides bringing a thopter friend with her, thus triggering your fireweaver, her activated abilities add a nice touch. Pumping a small critter to crew a vehicle or keeping someone from blocking can have quite an impact, but Pia is desirable largely as a sacrifice outlet, as we'll discuss later.
Combustible Gearhulk as a nice fatty for your opponent to worry about. Perhaps the least respected of the gearhulks, but this guy has had a huge impact on my games in which he becomes involved. Often a target for removal, but that doesn't worry us because...
Workshop Assistant can fetch any of our favorite artifacts back from the graveyard if they've met an untimely end. Most importantly though, he is the last piece of my favorite combo this deck can fire off. With Pia in play, artifact cost reduced by 3, and 2 of your assistants in play (or one in the graveyard), for the cost of a lowly 1 mana each cycle, an assistant can be sacrificed to Pia. That poor assistant can then be used to fetch his twin from the graveyard, who can then be played for free, pinging your opponent for however much damage can be done with however many fireweavers and panaharmonicons are in play. Repeat as many times as mana will allow for a possibly devastating damage swing.
Consulate Skygate
for a cheap artifcat drop and nice early game blocking.
Glint-Nest Crane to help us find the artifacts we want to get in play for the combo, plus early blocking.
Saheeli Rai adds a ton of utility to the deck, as each of her abilities can synergize nicely. Her +1 ability not only helps draw into the combo, but can keep on pinging the opponent for damage. Her -2 ability has a ton of possibilities. If we're ready to fire the combo, duplicating a fireweaver or panaharmonicon makes it that much more devastating. Copying Pia results in a double artifact drop and a free thopter you get to keep. Copying Skysovereign can function as removal to get its ETB ability. My favorite perhaps though is copying a gearhulk on the turn he comes into play, resulting not only a doubling of his ETB ability, but having a surprise 6/6 first striker with haste. Her ultimate obviously has tons of possibility as well, as we can get any 3 artifacts we need for the combo or whatever into play.
Skysovereign, Consul Flagship functions not only as a juicy attacker/blocker, but as removal in its own right with its ability.
Cultivator's Caravan as a little bit of help with mana, but as a nice blocker as well.
Paradoxical Outcome appears as the only spell in this deck, and I love it as a late game play. I know this deck's combo requires a lot of parts to get going and it can be tough to keep the right stuff in play. If you have even a moderately full board though, scooping all your artifacts (and drawing several more) and immediately playing them again at reduced cost can go a long way to feed the fireweaver. This card has definitely won me games I was poised to lose before.
Inventors' Fair since controlling 3 artifacts is more or less a foregone conclusion with this deck. Serves as a little bit of life gain, but more importantly to fetch that one artifact you really want when the time is right.
Highland Lake
, Spirebluff Canal, and Wandering Fumarole cuz we like mana. Red and Blue mana in fact. Is it Izzet? It is!
As for the sideboard:
After game one, if we've come even close to firing this deck like we want to, the biggest threats become apparent so we want to change things up a little bit, therefore:
Padeem, Consul of Innovation can protect our precious, precious artifacts that our opponent now knows they want to remove.
Turn Aside largely to protect both Padeem and our fireweavers
Welding Sparks
because adding some removal of our own is never a bad idea. Considering the number of artifacts we can get into play with this deck, this card can do a whole lot of damage.
Fevered Visions for when that pesky control deck just won't let us get anything into play. We'll need to try for card advantage then, and hopefully get them stuck with things in their own hand.
and finally, Aligned Hedron Network to deal with those damn eldrazi that I'm sure you hate as much as I do.
So that's it! I've met some success playing this deck, and it's a lot of fun to play when I do, but I'm definitely looking for ways to make it more competitive. Thanks for sticking with me and for what I'm sure are your thoughtful and constructive suggestions!
