Planeswalker (1)

(This deck has been edited to include CUSTOM Category for viewing.)

DECK 6 - 5-COLOR or RAINBOW (WUBRG) - for the 32 deck challenge. Morophon and friends, with a lean toward tribal elemental.

Companion Restriction: No card has more than one of the same Mana Symbol for the COMPANION Jegantha, the Wellspring

THEME: GUESS HUE?: A Celebration of Colors!... With as many multicolored cards into a functional deck as possible. This deck is a reflection of the Omnath, Locus of Green as it evolved into all colors surrounded by all the elements. The goal for the build was to include as many multicolored cards and elementals as possible, but is not exclusively tribal in that regard.

Current Average mana value is 2.58 with lands and 3.98 without lands. This deck's total mana value is 255 (not including Morophon or Jegantha)!

DISCLAIMER: I'm a casual player who in general avoids tutors except for land searches and Graveyard retrieval (as I find when you tutor you lose the randomness of fun) so you won't find Conflux in the mix, and I try to avoid any cards you might find on a salty (or the newer Game Changer) list. I also rarely use wincons as it feels like I'm playing solitaire instead of a fun group game. Door to Nothingness, Happily Ever After and Coalition Victory are neat, but not fun for anyone else. That said, I don't hold others to my restrictions and try to make a deck that will challenge those salty players - end result: I win about 10% of the time, but when I do I feel I've earned it and hopefully everyone enjoyed the game.

NOTES ABOUT THE DECK:

  • It's important to have an understanding that the colors of a spell are the colors in it's casting cost (vs the colors of it's identity). Ramos, Dragon Engine ironically sees Morophon as having no colors. That holds true even if Leyline of the Guildpact is out which makes "nonland permanents you control" all colors, but until they are resolved and on the table they are still only the colors (in the mana cost) of the spell. The Kavu 3/3 WUBRG tokens from Jared Carthalion would also not trigger any counters for Ramos as they are created (not cast), but they and the Fallaji Wayfarer will thrive with Jared's -3 ability.

  • The deck has 4 cards with Landfall triggers, but the build tries to most especially suit the arrival of Omnath, Locus of Creation. The inclusion of 7 Landscape Lands is purposeful for getting to the 2nd and hopefully third of Omnath's triggers. Nissa, Steward of Elements and Risen Reef can constantly peek to seek and drop a Land, and for Landscape Recovery is Lord Windgrace and Soul of Windgrace which pairs nicely with the Conjurer's Closet.

  • As the deck arrives slowly distractions are needed and Planeswalkers fit the bill nicely. If your opponents ignore them, they do so at their own peril. 6 Planeswalkers scatter the deck and the support of Leori, Sparktouched Hunter and Oath of Teferi make them even scarier! I found Jared Carthalion and descendant Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile a great fit for a 5 color frenzy!

  • Last note revolves around realizing that ManaRamp has to include alternate sources, color manipulation and cost reduction. If the right synergies show up much can be cast without spending mana. Morophon, the Boundless with Animar, Soul of Elements can cast creatures for free. Jegantha, the Wellspring can single tap to cast anything if the Fist of Suns is out (and is a great way for Morophon to arrive, but remember does not cover Commander tax!). Omnath, Locus of All is great for storing unspent mana, but be careful in that any unspent mana which has a restriction (like that from Jegantha's not being used for generic costs) maintains the restriction even after turning black (... 4 of the 6 Land Elementals need black).

That's all for now - It's a deck that starts slow so expect to take some hits, but when it arrives it arrives quickly and strong!

Ta,

Ripgardian
