Just saw the comment u put on my deck. I haven't been using this site for a very long time so I don't know how to reply to peoples comments so I'll put mine here. First off sorry about the price of my deck but i.e the competitive rating on it I wasn't going for budget, either way, I'm glad u like my Red/Black pirates. Since u decided to link ur deck I figured I'd take a look at it and I think its pretty solid. Especially with all the removal spells to royally screw over your opponent.

Thanks for the upvote on my Pirates of the grave deck. (shameless plug I know lol)

May I suggest you sideboard Walk the Plank and use Shock?

I know many people are using Merfolk decks now, but it is too spacific and you risk having it in your hand as dead weight.
However, if your local store is Merfolk mad then by all means keep it in :-)

I really like Rigging Runner I will see if I can fit it in my deck. Also I'm thinking would Abrade Work for you? It was suggested that I put that burn spell in mine

@sopranosomega, thanks for the comment and vote. Walk the Plank does get sideboarded when playing merfolk. Only a few people in my store run merfolk, so it ends up being useful. I don't own any Abrade or I would totally have that in. Same with Push.

Might want to see how Claim / Fame works in place of March of the Drowned? Seems possible the ability to finish off an opponent with a hasted creature could work great.

Ninjew42 says... #6

@gebell, march of the drowned is super effective because it allows me to return two pirates to my hand vs just one with Claim / Fame. The haste does not make a difference is this case.

I like this. It seems a wee bit threat light. Perhaps a few more doods. +1

@Geoffrey1, I want to add some Dire Fleet Poisoner but I don't have any, and my local store is sold out.

Geoffrey1 says... #9

Poisoner is the best!!!!!! But I view him more as a removal spell then dood. The fact that he can trade with 80% of the current threats in this format that matter is impressive. Always remember that the Poisoner is the best kill any ground based threat minus a God spell in this format.

@Geoffrey1, I got my poisoners. Added and ready for FNM. Lets see how we do!

I added Ruin Raider and took out Captain's Hook. It helped out.

Hey there! I don't know if I linked you my pioneer version of this deck. I have to say I REALLY enjoy the pirate aggro ALOT! https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/we-arrr-but-humble-pirrrates/

Your "turn 4 kill" isnt actually correct. Lannery plus Bravado is only a 3/3 with double strike (6 damage). You choose either 1/1 and first strike -or- 1/1 and double strike [pirate].

pistolpeteiii, it is correct because the Cptn gets +2/+0 from sacrificing 2x Treasure Tokens and another +1/+1 and Double Strike from Bravado.

ahhh you're right, my bad!

don't know how budget you're going for here, but I have a few suggestions:

Blood Crypt. For super aggro, that 2 life isn't going to hurt one bit, and any sort of Rakdos split is great. Never wanna be dead in the water with no red/black sources!

Embercleave. Just a great finisher, the mana reduction will almost always make it around the same cost as the Bravado, but plus trample and it sticks around.

Kari Zev, Skyship Raider. it never hurts to get two attackers for one, especially when one of them is Kari.

More lord effects! I'm sure you've noticed how nice the Neckbreaker's buff is, but he costs a ton mana-wise. Some sort of shapeshifting tribe-of-your-choice buff could be nice, maybe an Adaptive Automaton?

Lastly, Dire Fleet Captain has the potential to be, just so massive for such little mana... he's wonderful.

hope this helps, great deck!

Omniscience_is_life, I have no Blood Crypt or I would include them for sure. Embercleave is nice but WAY to expensive as I would want to run at least x3, and does not fit my theme of Pirates.
Kari is cool but ends up being kinda useless compared to other better options. Had her in an early build and she got punted.
The Adaptive is a good card for tribal, but 3/3 is not as scary as 4/2.
Dire Fleet Captain is junk. I had him in an early build and found him to be ineffective at best.

I think Walk the Plank is outclassed by other removal spells. Fatal Push is very strong, but if you want a more budget option, Bloodchief's Thirst is good too. Kari Zev, Skyship Raider is a very aggressive pirate with menace, and Kitesail Freebooter is just a strong card. Love the deck!

@rjife Push is a better kill spell but does not fit my pirate theme. Kari is cool but as I said before is actually outclassed by other cards later on.
Thank you for the comment!

This looks f'n fun but I'd love to face this in a tournament

@magwaaf, this deck is tons of fun to play. It is very weak to board wipes and, as with most aggro decks, can loose steam fast if you get bad draws. When this thing is on track it will hold its own against most things.

If I run wipes they are in the yard. But I'm running mono black devotion and its fun
