No Flameshadow Conjuring/Parallel Lives? With your other token out put this would just be another helper, especially if you get AEther Adept/Man-o'-War with your Conjurer's Closet to always propagate tokens with riku every turn. I have found this to be a very good combo with Acidic Slime or the bouncer before mentioned for control (or even with Craterhoof Behemoth). Now for the final suggestion Sundial of the Infinite, activate this during your end step while all your creatures tokens are on the stack to be exiled and you get to keep them all.

I also have a Riku deck, let me know what you think. Reflections Past and Future.

Why not Eerie Interlude over Ghostway, just in case there are some creatures you want to keep for the turn?

To RainbowInferno,

That is a good point. However in most cases, I'm just going to blink all of my creatures, since I'm using in as an anti-board wipe card. Also, Eerie Interlude is much cheaper, hehe.

Since you (quite rightly) fear Torpor Orb, perhaps you should run some stuff to remove it if you run into it? Krosan Grip, Return to Dust, Revoke Existence, Fade into Antiquity, Shattering Blow, Angelic Purge, Fate Forgotten, and more would all make good counters to a card that single-handedly hoses your deck. You probably also want some stuff to remove Hushwing Gryff since it too hurts you badly.

Another idea I just had, what about the artifact that gives the equipped creature myriad? With so many enter the battlefield triggers you could get off of that, it could be crazy.

How about Eldrich Evolution? :>

GregariousG says... #7

Eldritch Evolution should 100% be in the deck. I have no clue what to cut though. Suggestions?

I don't like Lyev Skyknight. I feel like it does to little in edh to be relevant. You need to flicker it every turn to get value out of it.

I think your assessment is correct. E-EVOLVUTION seems better all the time. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the excellent read and the thought process you went through to make this deck. I don't have anything to add however, as I haven't played edh ever and the high mana things seem silly to me still. :feign ignorance:

With only two black cards and a commander that doesn't have an ability that triggers when it enters and a theme of Birthing Pod and at least one partner with an etb ability, I think all signs are pointing to using Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder and Thrasios, Triton Hero as your commanders. To say that Bruse Tarl's ability isn't useful is to say that you will never be close to death and need lifelink, that opponents will never be close to death and die from double strike, and that you don't care to Birthing Pod him unto Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker.

I hope my words have begun to write a new chapter in the story of this deck.

Thanks, Jormdaworm. Glad you enjoyed the read. MagicalHacker, I've thought about using Bruse Tarl//Thrasios as my commanders. It's just that Bruse isn't good. I know he gives double strike and lifelink, but I'd mostlikely to swing with a 2/2. I rather have the light black splash for Sidsi, which tutors and puts creatures into my graveyard. I know Reaper King isn't the most efficient commander for this deck, but he does the job. If there was a better Boros partner with an ETB, then I would consider cutting the black.

What about the versatility with Birthing Pod effects?

January 24, 2017 9:05 p.m.

GregariousG says... #14

I still don't think that makes him good enough. Targets for poding into Kiki-Jiki has never been a problem with this deck.

You spun a tale of woe that is deserving of a +1. As a Sliver Player I too sit and wait for a top tier Sliver to finally come along to be the commander that the hive mind deserves. From what I understand, Slivers are a "sometimes only" affair with Magic, as they tend to attract negative attention. However, I too can relate. Maybe the next cycle will grant you the commander you deserve.

I'm brewing another ETB based EDH, and i find this deck really cool. My approach is a little different, but hey! EDH and flickering FTW!

I know you've got few enchantments, however, how about Academy Rector? It is tutorable with Recruiter of the Guard, it is sacrificable to Birthing Pod, bringing directly to the battlefield, let's says a Purphoros, God of the Forge as enchantment and another 5 mana creature like Karmic Guide or Reveillark and recurring something else from your graveyard or Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and recurring something else.

PS: I hate Torpor Orb too, but I have a playset in my Phyrexian Dreadnought deck

This deck having a bounce mechanic, I'm slightly disappointed not to see Brago, King Eternal granted he is more flicker everything you have with ETB. Also, maybe Clone Legion and Into the Wilds

I'd love to buy this deck, it seems amazing but the unfortunate thing... over my budget.

Keep it up my dude!

Really love the deck. Just seems a shame that you can't get more use out of your commander. If it's only good to potentially kill something in combination with Kiki-Jiki or Splinter Twin then it's really a waste. Have you considered Child of Alara? Could be a decent reset button in case your opponents out-pace you. Or maybe Horde of Notions? He has 3 relevant keywords and can brink back elementals like Mulldrifter and Reveillark. Plus with him you could consider adding cards like Shriekmaw, Tyrant of Discord, AEthersnipe and Avenger of Zendikar who all have very relevant ETB triggers. And maybe Maelstrom Wanderer who can help you get more things on the field and give everything haste.

To JoltsOfEnergy,

I think your assessment of Horde of Notions is correct, even if it is just for Mulldrifter and Reveilark. Shriekmaw probably will be added in as well. I'm not sure what to cut though, probably Sin Collector as it is a meta dependent card.

this is an awesome deck man i wish i had half the cards to make it work

my only suggestion would be to try some of the monument cards from amonkhet for some more creature etb benefits

GregariousG says... #21

To dotytron,

Thanks! I always appreciate comments. These are the cards I'm looking to possibly add for Almond Cat, in order of importance:

    Cascading Cataracts

None of these cards have ETBs, but add a ton of utility. Of all the monuments, Hazoret's Monument has the most promise. I also want to add Angel of Sanctions, but might be just too cute to add to the deck.

Vectoro says... #22

You might consider Ashes of the Fallen. Name Elementals, and Horde can return any creature in your deck. Though I can see how finding something to cut may prove difficult.

April 30, 2017 11:26 p.m.

quick question- what do you do in the face of Humility? I see close to no removal outside of anguished unmaking and c rift (outside of the creatures). Finally, no Conspiracy?

May 2, 2017 9:49 a.m.

Hidran says... #24

There aren't enough elementals to warrant the use of Horde of Notions. Just use Progenitus. It sums up quite nicely the five color good stuff fustercluck you have here.

To chaosumbreon87,

The same thing Superman does when he encounters kryptonite; dramatically scream, lay on the floor, and get wrecked.

your text here
Unlike kryptonite, not everyone and their mothers play Humility, Torpor Orb, or Hushwing Gryff. Here's the numbers according to EDHREC:That's not alot, in comparison to Wood Elves at 11931. If they have one of these silver bullets, then good on them. I do see you point that I could have more non-ETB removal.

To Hidran,

I can Birthing Pod HoN. HoN's ability does have some relevance.

To Vectoro,

That card is cool, but I don't think it is relevant enough to put in the deck. It's something to think about thhough.
