Poison Throne

Creature (2)

An infect deck with a longer term game plan! Based on the infect and proliferate mechanics but uses Throne of Geth to increase the poison damage by sacrificing clue tokens created using cards like Press for Answers to tie up op creatures, and Confront the Unknown, which can do well in this deck, to buff your infect creatures. The Throne of Geth can be a game winner as it's able to increase the -1/-1 counters on infected op creatures as well as increasing the poison counters on your op at the same time. Getting them to 10 is super quick and things like life link won't help them!

While it's handy that Blighted Agent is unblockable, you may need to board in Dissolve against fast burn and removal decks as it will likely be your infect workhorse. Your only other option to protect it is the hexproof option on Simic Charm or Blossoming Defense.

The Glistener Elf and Ichorclaw Myr are not as effective as Blighted Agent but the Myr is immune to removal that targets coloured creatures, and by chump blocking, both will take your ops creatures down a peg with their poison, which you can worsen with Throne of Geth. The Myr also becomes a 3/3 when it is blocked, so unless your opponent blocks it with a creature with first strike, you can poison your opponents larger blockers and then gradually kill them each time you activate the Throne.

As with all Infect decks the pump cards are important; here it's taken care of by a playset of Groundswell, Simic Charm, the kicked casting of Vines of Vastwood, and Confront the Unknown (which scales with your clues), which are all super cheap.

You ideally want to put as many of those pump cards on a Blighted Agent as possible and attack, doing a load of poison damage, then activate the Throne once or twice to finish them off.

If you're lucky enough to have a few clues out and two Confront the Unknowns in hand you can cast both on Blighted Agent, stack the clues, and let your 10/10 Agent do lethal poison damage.

If you have the mana to activate Novijen, Heart of Progress the turn you play an Agent, you can then proliferate to pump him.

Simic Charm is a real midrange "options" card that comes in handy whichever way you look at it. Nearly poisoned your opponent? Give your Blighted Agent +3/+3 and finish them. Opponent has removal? Make your Agent hexproof. They're hitting you with a pumped up creature? Bounce it to their hand so all the counters fall off!

I put one Ongoing Investigation in for its synergy with Blighted Agent as that should hit your opponent every turn, and if you're low on life you can use Investigation's other feature - exile a Glistener Elf and gain life and a clue.

It can pull off a turn 3 kill IF they don't get a playable creature or removal early enough:

  1. Forest / Botanical Sanctum, Glistener Elf
  2. Island / Botanical Sanctum, Simic Charm, poison for four
  3. Forest / Botanical Sanctum, Simic Charm and Groundswell / Blossoming Defense OR two Groundswell OR Groundswell and Blossoming Defense, poison for six, seven or eight for win.
