Maybeboard

This deck is mono black stax with Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker as a value engine to win the war of attrition against your opponents.

Ramp out stax cards like Nether Void, Winter Orb, Karn, the Great Creator, Contamination, and Trinisphere to lock opponents out of the game.

Because of our stax effects, we play Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker to help mitigate the damage they do to our board. Cards like Bloodghast, Reassembling Skeleton, Nether Traitor, Crucible of Worlds, Bitterblossom, Dreadhorde Invasion, Ophiomancer and Lifeline make it so we can pay costs without needing Shirei on the battlefield.

Any creature with power one or less that replaces itself are key to making our Shirei package produce meaningful results. We use cards like Dusk Legion Zealot, Skyscanner, Weaponcraft Enthusiast, Gleaming Barrier and Myr Retriever for this purpose.

Card draw is important for us, as we are going to need plenty of card advantage to outrace our opponents once the game falls into a stalemate. Skullclamp is obviously amazing here. We get a lot of other great cards to fulfill this role for us as well like Village Rites, Necropotence, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, Grim Haruspex and Costly Plunder.

Fast mana is important because, well it's fast. Mana Vault, Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Dark Ritual, and Chrome Mox put in some work here. We even get access to some pretty sweet fast lands like Lake of the Dead, Ancient Tomb, and Cabal Coffers that can turbo out some obscene plays early in the game.

Our removal suite is a little limited, but with all our stax effects, we can get away with it pretty easily. Damnation, Toxic Deluge, and Dead of Winter can answer most creature based threats, but non-creature permanents are much harder for us to deal with, so getting key stax pieces down early to slow down these strategies is very important.

When you find yourself smothering the table but are unable to finish off the game, Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Bastion of Remembrance are great options for closing the door on stubborn opponents. It is a good idea to get these guys after you get a good hold on the table, as losing them can make winning much more difficult.

Ramping is big for us, so we can play two or three spells a turn, so we have plenty of two man rocks to get our four and five mana plays down early. Mind Stone, Arcane Signet, Thought Vessel, Jet Medallion, and Fellwar Stone get the job done. These are especially important whe we have things like Winter Orb on the field. We have Thran Dynamo as well for pushing out some really scary play sequences.

This deck can hard lock on turn two with the proverbial nut draw with Karn, the Great Creator fetching Mycosynth Lattice. Turn two Contamination soft locks are not impossible, but improbable. Typically this deck wins through inevitability, using its hate pieces to stop players comboing or casting too many spells, while generating powerful advantage through its Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker engines usually leading to opponents scooping up their cards once the advantage crushes them.

Maybeboard are cards I have been considering adding to the deck.
