Sideboard

Maybeboard

I have revamped this deck. The basic core is the 8-Rack strategy. Force my opponent to discard cards as quickly as possible and punish them at upkeep for not having cards via Shrieking Affliction and The Rack . Once my opponents hand is sufficiently whittled I drop a Nyxathid or two and swing for the fences, clearing the way with Lightning Bolt or Victim of Night. Similarly, Funeral Charm+Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth allows me to swing Nyxathid with swampwalk. A sidebar strategy here is to utilize Ghost Quarter to target important dual lands and use Surgical Extraction to remove them from my opponents' repertoire. Lastly, Rix Maadi, Dungeon Palace allows me to continue forcing my opponent to discard each turn later in the game if and when I only draw a land, rather than a spell.

Ideal Draw: Swamp Dragonskull Summit Inquisition of Kozilek Lightning Bolt Blightning Shrieking Affliction Nyxathid

T1: Swamp + Inquisition of Kozilek

T2: Dragonskull Summit + Lightning Bolt opponent creature or player

T3: Land, if drawn + Blightning. If no third land, drop Shrieking Affliction + The Rack

T4: Land + Blightning if not on T3 or Nyxathid if so.

T5: Victim of Night or Lightning Bolt and swing with Nyxathid for 5-7 damage.

Sideboard Strategy: Famously, 8-Rack relies heavily on Ensnaring Bridge. Here I have sideboarded it with the intention of showing my opponent in game one that I am NOT playing it. This is done in the hopes that my opponent sideboards out any major artifact hate and feels comfortable leaving in/adding big creatures. In game two, perhaps three if I've won game one, sideboard OUT Nyxathid and bring in Ensnaring Bridge. Against control decks will see Duress replace Despise and Dragon's Claw vs Red/Burn or Defense Grid vs Blue/Counter. Grafdigger's Cage is brought in vs decks that play around with the graveyard to help out the graveyard hate ability of Rakdos Charm. If my opponent's deck is card specific, Extirpate can be sideboarded in to assist Surgical Extraction in neutering them.
