Damn. I blue it. —Oct. 15, 2020

Streamlined this deck by taking out white altogether, and "doubling up" on essential combo pieces.

Now, all the combo pieces in this deck have a "number 5-7" counterpart. For instance, I use 4x Banishing Knack as well as 3x Retraction Helix to ensure I draw it each game.

Golem Foundry has no real equivalent in pauper, from what I can tell, and I could use that creature that does that thing when artifact stuff happens, but instead I'm leaning on Drift of Phantasms which actually serves multiple functions. It not only can tutor the Foundry, but most of my other combo pieces, as well serve as a good flying blocker in a pinch.

Of course, now I'm looking at Nettle Drone and saying to myself, hmmm. This deck will probably end up Izzet-colored in the future.

I like red.

Why Stoic Rebuttal instead of Counterspell?

Daarkest: Literally, just because I feel bad for poor, little, neglected Stoic Rebuttal. =\ If I'm driving down the road, and I see the person in front of me hit-and-run a Magic card, I'll pull over, take the card home, care for it, nurse it back to health and help it get a job. It's just what I do. =P

(Good suggestion though, seriously. And I'll probably end up switching over to Counterspell or Mana Leak after a bit more testing. =] )

Hi, any update about a sideboard? I’m building this deck but I’m a noob about building sideboards :/ Thanks and great job

Giorgiod: First of all, thanks for your interest, and please let me know how playing the deck works out for you. =D I'd love to get feedback on the deck in a different meta.

As for a sideboard. Tbh, eh not really, lol. I play mostly casual/kitchen table, plus I literally have over 50 pauper decks built so I don't get to play them all as much as they deserve.

That being said, were I to bring this deck to a LGS and play it, I would probably swap Stoic Rebuttal for straight-up Counterspell as Daarkest suggested above, and leave maybe one or more Stoic Rebuttals in the sideboard for counter-wars with other blue decks.

I only have the one copy of Welding Jar or else I'd have more in the deck also, so put some of those in the sideboard too.

Apostle's Blessing is one of the best defense spells in pauper imho, so if you face a lot of removal, there's that.

Echoing Truth is versatile enough to hit any permanent, so kind of a board wipe, but can also get rid of Treasure, Food, etc. depending on what you face.

Beyond that, I usually go very general with my sideboards, so creature removal (Searing Light, Smite, Celestial Flare), artifact removal (Fragmentize, Dispeller's Capsule) and enchantment removal (Demystify). And sometimes you can double up the effects on one card to "save space" in your sideboard, as you can see. =)

Finally, there's always the old trick where you Unsummon/Void Snare something, and then Counterspell it when they try to cast it again.

Hopefully that jumble of ideas provides some help to you! =D Have fun, and let me know how you like the deck and if it needs any major adjustments or whatnot! Thanks!

You need Tooth of Chiss-Goria. This makes the combo at instant speed so you don't have to care for burn. Also it's an alternate win condition because you can add an infinite +1/+0 to an unblocked creature.

You also need Drift of Phantasms because all the goodies cost 3. It's helpfull to get the missing piece for the combo.

Altoman: Yeah I've got some Tooth of Chiss-Gorias around here somewhere that I keep forgetting to put in. Thanks for reminding me, it is a good idea. =)

As for the Drift of Phantasms I don't have any, but I need to buy like 40 of them for my decks, so hopefully I can swap that in soon, too.

Thanks for your help.
