Oh yeah I was wondering how does Walking Ballista not die when you get it with Hulk?

Kiddragon says... #2

It dies. We don't care.

Oh yeah I was wondering do you ever plan to add Timetwister to this deck? Every time I'm interested in a blue cedh deck it has it in it which is a total buzzkill so I was happy to see this one didn't have it. Even the Collector's Edition is like $500

OptimalGreen Nope. Most decks actually have comparatively few answers for Vannifar, so shuffling back in all the Deluges and Trophies seems not great. Also, Vannifar doesn't really need cards in hand to win, so refilling is much better for our opponents. If I was really worried about recursion I would look at Loaming Shaman, potentially as a slot in over Whirlpool Rider.

Spleenface That's good to hear. Finally a blue cedh deck I'm interested in where I don't feel like I'm missing out by not having Timetwister. Well there's also Momir Vig but I like Vannifar more cause she's an Ooze Elf.

Spleenface I'm just wondering if I enter infinite turns when Mana Crypt is in play and my life is low, say at 10, how would I prevent myself from dying to Crypt if a player wants me to play out my turns and before I get a finisher or just attack him to death? ...I actually died to Crypt before I can actually kill the player.

mega_pixel use Vannifar to find Rec Sage, Scooze to keep yourself alive, or Spellseeker for Nature's Claim

How's the Retriever combo work without metamorph? Just ignore steps 7-13 if you have an untap effect like Lodge of Minamo?

July 14, 2019 6:22 p.m.

Spleenface says... #9

OptimalGreen The metamorph became a Sakashima because it has slightly higher marginal utility

Thanks for the answer. Also ever consider running Crop Rotation for Wirewood Lodge, Minamo, and Cradle? I was thinking about that a bit earlier.

Oh I was also wondering do you ever consider running Mana Drain and Grim Monolith? I've got copies of both but am unsure if they're needed for this deck.

July 23, 2019 5:46 p.m.

Spleenface says... #12

OptimalGreen I've considered Crop Rotation, mostly just a case of navigating how much space I have in the deck. Same with Mana Drain, I decided to go for easier to cast interaction, even if it isn't as impactful, as it's primarily to protect my stuff.

I wouldn't run Monolith, if I have 2 mana to cast it, there are much better cards to get me to 4 to cast Vannifar on the following turn.

ChrisKrow off being bad with all the other 6 mana ways to win the game

Someone recently told me that Vannifar actually isn't very good in cEDH and I was wondering is that true? They said she's clunky.

July 27, 2019 1:55 p.m.

Spleenface says... #16

OptimalGreen she's clunky, there are like 30 pieces that fill out the various chains that substantially dampen your card quality.

The flip side is that she can pretty much always win if you untap with her, and many decks don't actually have that many answers for a 4cmc, 2/4 creature. I wouldn't take her to a tournament with my life on the line, but she can definitely perform.

Would I put her up against T&T Flash Hulk, Kess, Zur, 5c Food Chain or decks like that? No. Would I put her against Edric, Yisan, Sidisi, Teferi, or decks like that? Sure.

The somewhat sad truth is that any deck with <3 colours will always have more substantial weaknesses than decks with more colours, as you just can't get complete coverage across all the things you want to do. Vannifar has an exceedingly powerful effect, but is limited by her colours and her extremely large combo package.

One positive thing is that it's likely a few more untappers will get printed and I'll be able to slim the combo package down, she's definitely the kind of card that will get new and better toys regularly.

Hey did you think of the new finale of devastation? Although costing another green it lets you search your graveyard and can win the game with infinite mana

Also neoform? Ik by countering it the spell is two for oned but it still seems good

And here I was thinking there wouldn't be any cards in Eldraine I care about other than the new art for Opt to run in Modern U/W Stoneblade. Glad someone else actually looked at the set lol cause I thought it was gonna be a big pass.

What's Temur Sabertooth doing in the deck?

January 18, 2020 2:43 a.m.

Spleenface says... #23

feelthedeuce It's there as a combo piece with Priest of Titania and Wirewood Symbiote, as a backup line if I can't get vannifar to stick, or she gets revokered or something. I need at least one 4 drop to pod through if I lose Hippocamp, and that was the most useful one.

Wouldn't Intruder Alarm be a staple in Vannifar decks?

March 11, 2020 3:28 p.m.

Spleenface says... #25

n8dog8freefood In theory yes, but I found that I couldn't reliably access it. This in turn meant that I needed to build the deck to be able to win from most game states even if I didn't have intruder alarm, which in turn meant that intruder alarm was almost never necessary to enable a win.

I know there are some other builds where they cut a lot of the combo pieces and play more interaction, card advantage and card selection in exchange for less consistently winning early, it would probably make sense in a build like that.
