So, there's still a lot to work on with this build but it's won quite a few games so I think it's time to give this puppy it's own description.

This is an Ayli/Lurrus build that has an Aristocrats/Life Gain opening Plan and has quite a few combos for the end game. It thrives by playing "best friend" to everyone at the table and left unchecked for long enough to execute an end game combo.

You Will Like This Deck If:

  • You like Lurrus and getting incremental value.
  • You don't mind having to pay A LOT of attention to triggers.
  • Having a sneaky "I Win" combo if nobody has a counterspell

You Will Not Like This Deck If:

  • Your playgroup hates decks out of the table starting turn 1.
  • You like playing big flashy cards.
  • You hate updating life totals.
  • You want clear answers to complex board states.

Decklist Thoughts: (2022/08/29)

Sometimes it's difficult for this deck not to feel like "A bunch of bad cards singleton". My main goal right now is to get my hands on Card advantage engines for the deck like Archivist of Oghma and Dark Confidant to give the game more grease.

Notable Combos:

  • Bloodchief Ascension + Mindcrank -- Bloodchief Ascension takes a little bit to get online, but once you do, it does work and begins zapping people left and right. Mindcrank makes it go infinite and the game is yours. Keep in mind that Bloodchief says From ANYWHERE -- AND you can use this to self-mill yourself for awhile.
  • Angel's Grace + Ad Nauseam + Sickening Dreams -- you need 7 or 8 mana to resolve this. If Angel's Grace Resolves, Cast Ad Nauseam and dump most of your deck into your hand. Then you can Dark Ritual into a Sickening Dreams, discarding your whole hand. You don't die due to the Grace :) If Sickening Dreams gets countered or something else, I don't know how to help you. Tithe Taker and other effects are in the deck to protect you.
  • Leonin Relic-Warder + Animate Dead + Combo Outlet such as Blood Artist / Corpse Knight -- Usually an instant kill on the spot. You need a combo outlet in play, and then you can animate dead Leonin Relic Warder to get infinite ETB/LTB Triggers

Tips and Tricks:

  • Ayli serves as an additional control piece you can use if you manage to get your life high enough, as well as a sac outlet.
  • Tutors give this deck a lot of gas, but keep in mind that with Ad Nauseam, the deck's curve wants to be as low and competitive as possible.
  • When possible, find plays that allow you to use already existing resources from your graveyard or field rather than quickly playing out cards in your hand.
  • Cards like Sevinne's Reclamation, Return to the Ranks, and Call of the Death-Dweller can be late game instant-win cards, so only use them in the early/mid-game if absolutely necessary. Codex Shredder is our best option to get them back and it's quite expensive to get the effect we'd want.

Notable Inclusions

  • Codex Shredder -- Codex Shredder has a great interaction with Lurrus that you can return any Non-Creature Card to hand and cast it once per turn for 6 mana. Angel's Grace Is a wonderful stall card to do this with and it also allows you to get your Ad Nauseam back if you happen to self-mill over it

Notable Exclusions

  • Vizkopa Guildmage + Revival / Revenge -- I get that this combo can kill the whole table, but it costs quite a bit of mana to play, and Revival/Revenge does MASSIVE DAMAGE off an Ad Nauseam due to it counting both halves of the card. I dont think you can play both Ad Nauseam and this combo.
  • Stoneforge Mystic + Package -- Stoneforge is a great Lightning Greaves tutor that allows you to protect Lurrus or your Blood Artist, but with the number of slots it dedicates to the plan, I'm not convinced it's the best choice -- BUT, this is the most likely exclusion to change long term. I also feel like if you're going to play Stoneforge, you should have 1 or 2 backups, and the best candidates for this sort of build for Greaves backups is Swiftfoot Boots and Sword of the Animist.

Urgent Includes:

  • Demonic Tutor
  • Grim Tutor
  • Vampiric Tutor
