Animar is silly. Everyone knows it, but I can't stop loving him. This deck is designed to do what I love in MTG: put out big creatures, ramp and draw cards. I don't get crazy with the combos as that is not my style, but there are a couple.

The deck is designed around "enters the battlefield" and "when this creature is cast" triggers.

Always remember, focus on getting Animar, Soul of Elements on the board, early and often. Every creature cast grows Animar bigger. The bigger he is, the easier nearly everything is to cast. Any creature cast for only generic mana is potentially free to cast, everything from Solemn Simulacrum to Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. Any creature cast for adds Animar's counters to the value.

These roles are filled by multiple cards in this deck. Sometimes a single card serves multiple roles (i.e. Coiling Oracle which is more ramp or more card advantage based on the next card in your deck).

On the rampier side of things is: Ondu Giant, Wood Elves, Mina and Denn, Wildborn, Nissa, Vastwood Seer  , Oblivion Sower & Solemn Simulacrum.

Playing off the top of your deck: Courser of Kruphix, Oracle of Mul Daya, Vizier of the Menagerie & Rashmi, Eternities Crafter.

Sweet card draw: Consecrated Sphinx, Garruk's Packleader, Shaman of the Great Hunt, Solemn Simulacrum, Soul of the Harvest & Temur Ascendancy.

First, planeswalkers are permanents so they allow Primal Surge to go off. Each of the planeswalkers were selected for the mana or card advantage resources they provided. Other abilities are gravy.

Xenagos, the Reveler is included primarily for the +1 mana ability. If he sticks, the ultimate -6 ability is pretty sweet in this deck build.

Garruk, Primal Hunter is included primarily for the -3 card draw ability. Given the creatures on board can be pretty large. This could be 5 mana draw 8 cards or more. He also provides dudes on board for +1, which isn't nothing.

Basically, I am +1'ing Sarkhan Unbroken every turn for draw a card, add a mana. He can make a dude, but I am hoping not to need to. If he sticks he can ultimate to cheat out Dragonlord Atarka, Steel Hellkite & Balefire Dragon.

Nissa, Vastwood Seer   tutors for a forest, keeping land drops moving. Then her +1 ability provides a Coiling Oracle effect.

You've got to be able to deal with the board. Acidic Slime & World Breaker deal with artifacts, enchantments and lands. Bane of Progress wipes artifacts and enchantments.

Steel Hellkite deals with permanents and gets around hexproof or shroud. I consider Balefire Dragon to be a semi-board wipe for players that have gotten a little ahead of themselves with board state. Meteor Golem is an update to destroy non-land permanents for free (potentially).

Scavenging Ooze is included for a bit of graveyard hate & Draining Whelk for a hard counter spell.

Who can forget Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger to erase two permanents on the cast?

Walking Ballista and Dragonlord Atarka provide direct targeted damage to creatures, planeswalkers or players.

Duplicant is targeted creature removal.

Draining Whelk and Kira, Great Glass-Spinner offer a little shelter in blue. Asceticism is tremendous in this deck. Surrak Dragonclaw says "Creature spells you control can't be countered." That seems good.

You can't protect everything and creatures die. Good news! First, you are nearly always drawing more creatures. Second, you can get some stuff back using Artisan of Kozilek, Eternal Witness & Greenwarden of Murasa.

As this deck features ETB and cast triggers on creatures, you want to do as much of that as possible. Deadeye Navigator, Cloudstone Curio, Conjurer's Closet, Panharmonicon & Roaring Primadox all exist to help you accomplish this goal.
Who doesn't? So you can tutor a little bit. Fierce Empath allows you to go get an answer. Woodland Bellower can go and get you something. How about this chain: Woodland Bellower to Fierce Empath to Conduit of Ruin to Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger or World Breaker.

Genesis Hydra is a minor tutor.

Fine, impatience.

STRATEGY 1: BEAT SOMEONE'S FACE WITH GIANT CREATURES!

Self Explanatory, right? Some get there dudes like Primordial Hydra & Worldspine Wurm. Get some haste with Urabrask the Hidden and Temur Ascendancy. Get some trample with Mina and Denn, Wildborn, Surrak Dragonclaw and Kessig Wolf Run. Perhaps, a little evasion with Champion of Lambholt. Wreck faces with Craterhoof Behemoth.

STRATEGY 2: COMBO OUT (CHEATER)!

The whole deck is permanents with the exception of Primal Surge, to allow for the Laboratory Maniac + Primal Surge combo for the win. As Primal Surge resolves, you will dump your deck on the field which will lead to Laboratory Maniac on the board with stacked draw triggers coming off of Soul of the Harvest, Garruk's Packleader and/or Temur Ascendancy.

If someone manages to bounce Laboratory Maniac exposing you to death, you should have in the neighborhood of 30+ lands on the board, including Alchemist's Refuge and/or Winding Canyons. Activate the Flash effect, cast Surrak Dragonclaw first, followed by Laboratory Maniac.

Ancestral Statue bounces himself for an infinite number of times with Animar, Soul of Elements gaining infinite counters (I usually select 1 billion, a la Doctor Evil). Kill everyone by resolving Walking Ballista and firing off.

Alternatively, the Ancestral Statue loop triggers card draw with either Soul of the Harvest or Garruk's Packleader on the board. Take a break to cast Laboratory Maniac when you draw him, and win the game by drawing out.

Also, with Purphoros, God of the Forge on the table and Ancestral Statue in hand, bounce the Statue and kill everyone with Purphoros.

STRATEGY 3: MILL EVERYONE'S LIBRARY?

Sure. Why not? Since you are doing ridiculous things anyway, you might as well. Board set up: Animar, Soul of Elements, Cloudstone Curio, Oblivion Sower & one other colorless, non-artifact creature that can be cast for purely generic mana (i.e. Eldrazi like Endless One). Essentially, the two Eldrazi bounce each other in an infinite loop thanks to Animar and Curio. In the process, Oblivion Sower is milling someone's deck into exile AND you are getting their lands. Do this to each player at the table and say "Turn."

Hypothetically, you could do this with a colored creature also due to Oblivion Sower's land stealing ability (which lands come under your control untapped). However, there is a chance this eventually bricks or dies out due to lack of untapped lands or wrong color lands.
