Another control deck for Fate Reforged standard. I am trying to make
Prognostic Sphinx
work in a deck.
The Creatures:
Prognostic Sphinx
- a creature that I adore that fixes your draws who can also eat removal like a champ. Discarding cards to protect him isn't that bad due to Dig Through Time being in the deck.
Resolute Archangel
- a creature who has evasion, like
Prognostic Sphinx
, and resets the game for you when against faster match-ups.
The Spells:
Bile Blight - a removal card that hits harder than Drown in Sorrow, but is more specific.
Crux of Fate - a board wipe. Nothing more to say.
Dig Through Time - the perfect example of card advantage. It fixes what you will draw while also drawing those cards. You should grab threats, like Elspeth, Sun's Champion and Liliana Vess, or control cards, like Crux of Fate and
End Hostilities
.
Disdainful Stroke - a counterspell that stops bigger threats, such as Siege Rhino, Elspeth, Sun's Champion, and Dig Through Time.
Dissolve
- a counterspell that has no restrictions and lets you scry.
End Hostilities
- a board wipe. Nothing more to say.
Hero's Downfall - a removal spell that hits creatures, like Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Stormbreath Dragon, and planeswalkers, like Ugin, the Spirit Dragon and Elspeth, Sun's Champion.
Negate - a counterspell that can hit scary noncreature spells, like Whip of Erebos, Dig Through Time, and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon.
Thoughtseize - the standard hand disruption spell.
Utter End - a diverse piece of removal that can hit anything that manages to get onto the board.
The Planeswalkers:
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver - one of the many win-cons in this deck, and my personal favorite planeswalker, however Ashiok is terrible against other control decks.
Elspeth, Sun's Champion - another win-con that can swarm the board with tokens, then give them
Jump
and
Gather Courage
to end the game. Oh, she can also remove scary creatures like Siege Rhino and
Pearl Lake Ancient
.
Liliana Vess - a walker who can disrupt your opponent's hand, tutor for cards, then use her ultimate to end the game.
Sorin, Solemn Visitor - a walker who creates tokens and then pumps them up whilst gaining you life. His ultimate is pretty good, but you won't normally get to it.
The Board:
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver - another copy of a win-con when against creature-heavy decks. Replace Negate.
Bile Blight - more removal! Replace
Prognostic Sphinx
for it when facing scary creature decks.
Disdainful Stroke - a counterspell. Replace
Prognostic Sphinx
or Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver when facing control and midrange decks.
Drown in Sorrow - another board wipe. Replace one
Prognostic Sphinx
and one Liliana Vess for them when facing aggro.
Elspeth, Sun's Champion - another copy of the win-con. Replace, well, anything for her when needed.
Glare of Heresy
- a removal spell that specializes in killing white. Replace one Hero's Downfall and one Bile Blight when facing decks with white, especially against Elspeth, Sun's Champion.
Negate - more counterspells... Replace one Crux of Fate for it when facing decks with scary noncreature spells.
Nyx-Fleece Ram
- a good blocker that also gains you life. Replace two Bile Blight, one
Dissolve
, and one Crux of Fate /
End Hostilities
for it when needed.
Pearl Lake Ancient
- a big, beefy creature that can end games when it hits the field. Replace one Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver or one Bile Blight for it when facing control.
Sorin, Solemn Visitor - a walker when Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver isn't that good. Replace one Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver when facing decks that don't focus on creatures.
