why do you have the Greater Goods when you could have Life's Legacys

Mr.Mirage says... #3

One, because it's a Sorcery and that hinders when I could use it's effect. Two because for 2 extra mana my opponent has to worry what he is going to use to kill with his kill spells. Threaten to kill a big creature, I'll just sac it and draw cards.

Vastwood Hydra could flow well in some of these combos too. Nice deck! :D +1

Hey I was just wondering how this decks is playing out? Kalonian is one of my favourite cards and im hating not playing him in anything right now. Thanks in advance!

It does really really good. When Kalonian hits the field he makes a huge impact. And if your opponent is playing control and you're able to get a Whip out he can come back and do some more damage. If I were to change anything I would take out Scourge and put in another Commune with the Gods and put in a Garruk the Veil-Cursed/Corpsejack Menace. It's been doing great in short. <3.

Because I'd much rather get one of the Whips out early or a Kalonian. :)

WHIP! Right. Makes sense. Was just looking at the section actually labelled "enchantment".

Hi Mr.Mirage, cool deck, I had some questions:

1) Can you tell me more about why you run 3x Kalonian Hydra and 4x Primordial Hydra? If we disregard Corpsejack for a moment in my experience Primordial is only worth dropping at 5 CMC / 3 counters. For 5 mana I'd rather play Kalonian and at least get 8/8 trample in the next turn if he sticks. I just can't see Primordial sitting on the board for more than a turn or two. Plus, it seems like you've built the deck the deck around Whip of Erebos, but Primordial can't be whipped at all.

2) How big is Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord during different stages of the game, on average? Is that relevant, or do you mostly just use his sacrifice ability?

3) Have you gotten the chance to play against any other common decks after infect?

Hi. The deck hasn't been messed with in a long while. I was actually thinking of replacing the Primordials foor Managorger Hydras. And, yes I usually combo Jarad with a used up Kalonian from Whip.

Well if you try it let me know how it works out. I was initially intrigued by Managorger Hydra as well but it's already struggling a bit in Standard and I don't think it's positioned well in Modern as a 3 CMC 1/1 against ubiquitous burn: Lightning Bolt, Electrolyze, Kolaghan's Command, Pyroclasm, Anger of the Gods etc and it's not really much more whippable than Primordial was... lower investment as a 2 CMC for a 1/1 or higher starting toughness as 3 CMC for a 2/2 would both bump up its playability substantially but we've got what we've got. /shrug

If you do try it, I might recommend something like

+2 Managorger Hydra
+2 Polukranos, World Eater
+1 Kalonian Hydra
+1 Hardened Scales

-4 Primordial Hydra
-2 Corpsejack Menace

The Polukranos is a great 5/5 body for 4 CMC so it's both whippable and fits the Hydra theme even if it doesn't play up the +1/+1 counter side as much.

Kalonian is the best Hydra by a significant margin IMO, good value swinging at 8/8 trample for 5 CMC and wonderfully whippable. I'd go for the full playset.

I think Hardened Scales is arguably better and a bit less win-more than Corpsejack Menace, it's easier to get out before your hydras, and it gives the same net benefit to Managorger.

I have a deck with counters, and looking at yours I realise that I'm missing out on the best hydras!http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/having-fun-with-golgari/

Hey Mr.Mirage, how has Managorger Hydra worked out for you so far?

November 16, 2015 6:45 p.m.

Mr.Mirage says... #18

Silverboy - I'd take out Necrotic. Doesn't do anything with triggered abilities.

Shelldell - I enjoy having him. Especially with the pumps I can put out. To me it's a better Primordial.

Nice deck, +1, you should check the latest build of my "Undergrowth Canopy" deck out. It also uses a lot of Hydras and splashes black.

Perhaps Savage Summoning could be useful. And Bioshift or Fate Transfer could possibly be helpful if someone tries to remove your critters.
