From upon his fiery throne, he observes his thralls with a disdainful pleasure. This lord finds often indulges himself by toying with those he deems lower than himself and feasts upon the decadent roasted flesh of his victims. Yes, it is a truly horrifying sight to behold. But, all the same, it must be beholden by those unlucky enough to find themselves within roasting distance of this vicious tyrant.

If you enjoy being able to tear through your enemies with disregard for which they have, then Prossh is an excellent ally to have on your side. However, if you like to fiddle around with complicated stack interactions and lengthy, boring turns, then look aside as the king of the food chain goes on by.

Introduction Show

Prossh wins or loses based on his speed or redundancy. If you choose to go all in combo, then the deck hinges on aggressive mulligans and actively good hands. If your meta is inundated with Blue/Control decks, it may be wise to plan to either sit back and wait for a couple turns or pack one or more viable backup plans. In both cases, Prossh does not need to commit anything other than ramp to the board for him to win. This means, for your opponents, a losing hand and a winning hand look exactly the same. This means that you can often bluff into a win by simply waiting for your interaction. This separates Prossh from other the combo decks of the format. The big daddy dragon can hide behind a veil of secrecy by only playing necessities. Letting the control players fight among themselves and play kingmaker for you will lead Prossh to victory.

Combos & Win Conditions Show

This deck's main selling point is the fast interactions between cards like Food Chain & (to a lesser extent) Phyrexian Altar along with the solid backup plan of a 5/5 flying commander. The Food Chain (FC) combo can win as early as turn 2 (turn 1 with the nuts and consistently on 3) and can do so a lot of redundancy. However, even in cEDH, games can run long. This means that, in those situations, Prossh can win with stats alone.

Food Chain + a finisher

The Combo:

1. Cast Food Chain
2. Exile your mana dorks to get to 6 mana (With in the pool)
3. Cast Prossh
4. Exile Prossh for 7, and all of the dorks for 6 (Remember, FC exiles for X+1 mana) making 13 mana
5. Re-cast Prossh for 8 (netting ) and then exile for
6. Repeat the minimum number of times needed, netting each time

This it the big combo of the deck. It is blazing fast, and very compact. The only downside to this combo is that because of its compactness it's easily disrupted. This means if you find yourself in a pod with 2 or more control decks holding up mana, you will need to wait for one of them to play Kingmaker for you.

Protean Hulk Show

Protean Hulk + a sac outlet (with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed & Walking Ballista in deck)

The Combo

1. Get Protean Hulk into play
2. Sac Hulk to a Sac Outlet (Like Prossh)
3. Grab Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Walking Ballista
4. Sac the Ballista (it is a 1/1 due to Mikaeus)
5. Let the undying trigger resolve bringing back the ballista
6. Remove the counter, dealing 1 to an oppnent
7. Repeat until your opponents are dead

This is the main backup of the deck as it uses only one extra slot of the deck to have the backup. Overall, this combo is easily assembled, can be part of the main FC combo, and synergizes with almost every aspect of the deck overall.

Finishers

As the combos above suggest, this deck needs a way to abuse the infinite mana and tokens generated by Prossh and wring out a win. The cards below are but a few ways to do that. Other win conditions can be found in the appendix.

Explanations

The first group of three above (Goblin Bushwhacker, Reckless Bushwhacker, Purphoros, God of the Forge, Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, & Walking Ballista) are all of the win conditions that can actually Win the game. Purphoros makes infinite ETB triggers for damage on a Prossh cast, both of the whackers make infinite hasty doods, and finally the artists give infinite sac damage for when Prossh needs to feed himself. Goblin Bombardment is included as another win condition that can also double as a sac outlet for Hulk. The second group of cards find those win conditions without interrupting the combo.

Explanations

In order to increase consistency of any cEDH deck, you need tutors. As such, this deck runs nearly every tutor at or below as they all enable a turn 3 or earlier kill. All of the tutors in the universal tutor section are staples of the deck and should be included in nearly every version of Prossh looking to be competitive. As for the creature tutors, they usually grab utility to force through the combo, but can also grab the win conditions. The sudo tutors usually cost 10 or more life to be useful, but can be used as utility if the game runs long.

Explanation

Because this deck needs to compete with competitive control decks, you will need to include protection for the combo. The single target countermagic is good for pushing the combo through, and is also the best interaction when you are going fast. The permanents are better when you are looking to slow down by a turn or two as they can force interaction on the wrong things.

Ramp is another necessity of cEDH (or regular EDH) as it allows us to break the curve and win faster. Our dorks include all playable dorks at cmc or less that increases our mana production the turn after they come down (sorry Joraga Treespeaker). The other dorks on the list can make mana the turn they come into play, thus mitigating the fact that they cost more than. This deck also runs the obligatory fast mana rocks that are too nutty not to run as well as the rituals that either grab nutty cards (Crop Rotation), make too much mana to be fair (Dark Ritual), cannot be interacted with (The 2 Spirit Guides), or enable otherwise impossible wins (Burning-Tree Emissary).

Appendix Show

More Win Conditions:

• Chancellor of the Forge - Useful for first turn bonus and empath

This combo is nearly identical to the Food Chain (FC) combo. If you choose to run this, then it is worth noting that this backup takes a lot of slots in the deck. I have won a lot of games with this combo, but at the same time it is really only good in the most controlling metagames. As such it will significantly decrease the speed of the deck. Use at your own risk.
