i'm not saying its bad, i'm just not shore how it holds up to the tier 1 edh meta. such as-

Derevi STAX

Super Competitive Narset Combo

Arcum "DICK-BAG" Dagsson

Zur Ad Nauseam Storm

Doomsday Leovold

C--8CLARK8--D I understand your position, and appreciate your input, I'm not denying he doesn't look like much, but I play him in tournaments against many types of tier one commanders like Animate, Sharuum, Leovold, Zur, and Narset. He falters a little with Narset and Zur, but other than that he's very resilient to many different kinds of control.

Great deck, but is there any reasy u don't run Tainted Strike and Berserk?

Hipparchos those are great cards, I will not deny that, but I don't want to rely on my commander himself killing them, for fear of making it weak. I far prefer a brutal suicide black/modern jund approach. It's slower, but it is better for that in the long run. I know prossh wins me most games, but winning the same way every time bores me. Thank you for your input.

I totally understand, almost every (competitive) Prossh decklist has got literally the same wincons. What's your experience on playing competitive? Maybe you can give me some insight on your gameplan. :) Do you cast Prossh asap or when it's safe with a wincon in your hand?

But i have to damit, there are definitely some odd cards in your deck; like Bloodbraid Elf and Stalking Vengeance for example.

Hipparchos I don't generally plan for when I cast him, it all depends on my hand, board, and my opponent's board(s). Bloodbraid Elf just cascades into removal, or other early game fun stuff. I have her there for pure vale, then she's sac fodder or a little beater. Stalking Vengeance is there to ensure that if I swing with prossh or another beater, I'm getting damage in even if they are destroyed. If i get prossh to the average 11/5, have that guy out, swing, and he's blocked and killed, I still get 11 damage through, just not commander damage. I'd be happy to explain other cards as well, everything has a purpose.

Hipparchos to touch on my competitive experience, I've played this in many tournaments and have gotten 2nd or 1st almost every time. I admit that this deck is not a fun time for opponents, but I don't play it in casual. My other decks are for that. You'll notice I'm slim on tutors and have only one infinite combo, I have it that way because, again, if I don't, he becomes insanely weak to removal, and that's not what prossh is about. A couple friends have Sharuum the Hegemon and Animar, Soul of Elements, both built at tier 1, and prossh does very well against them. Thanks again for taking interest in my deck, and I look forward to further discussions.

Thanks for your detailed answer(s). :)

I'm looking for some ideas for my Prossh deck. It's just casual and on budget, but i want to make some upgrades so i can play at my LGS. I assume that you are playing ffa and not 1vs1 right?

Well, with Stalking Vengeance and Prossh you are wrong. If Prossh gets removed, i suppose you'll put him back into the Command Zone. Therefore Stalking Vengeance's abbility won't trigger. According to the rules, "to die" means putting a creature into the graveyard, and Prossh, in this case, isn't.

I'm just surprised you don't have Eternal Witness and Krosan Grip in your deck. Always thought these cards are necessary in a competitive meta.

  • 700.4. The term dies means is put into a graveyard from the battlefield

On the other hand tokens and Craterhoof Behemoth & Stalking Vengeance plus a sac outlet is gg; altough you can't attack someone. ;)

Pleeber says... #11

Commanders don't go straight to the command zone, they hit the grave and are checked out based on your choice. If, say, you choose to leave him in grave, he stays there until you animate him or he goes into the library or exile. I love krosan grip, but the split second thing in commander is mostly just to show off. Hull Breach and Beast Within are my artifact and enchantment hate of choice. Vandalblast is an auto include for any deck with red. I added eternal witness, I apparently forgot to update her in in place of Void Winnower. I didn't net deck anything besides food chain really, meta decks are fast, efficient, and very weak. This one is slow, unyielding, and strong. Besides, I like to toy with my prey ;)

Hipparchos I have faced a variety of types of tournaments. This deck is quite a bit cheaper than I made it, a lot of it, I admit, I'm showing off. I have ordered a Necropotence for him, and if you have the mana fixing, I highly recommend it to you as well.

If you look on mtgcommander.net under Play Rules it says:

  • If a Commander would be put into a library, hand, graveyard or exile from anywhere, its owner may choose to move it to the command zone instead. This is a replacement effect. It applies last and may apply multiple times to an event. The creature never goes to the original destination zone and will not trigger abilities that trigger based on going there (e.g. "dies" triggers).

So your IRL Prossh deck looks different than this on tappedout you mean?

March 7, 2017 7:22 p.m.

Pleeber says... #14

Hipparchos sorry, I didn't realize it replaced dying. Oh well, I guess I'll have to remove that. My IRL deck is now up to date, it looks the same, I went through and checked... It was awful. Yes, the expeditions and foils too, they're very beautiful.

Hipparchos says... #15

No worries :)

I'm excited which card you'll choose to replace Stalking Vengeance. Avenger of Zendikar would be obvious, but with Craterhoof Behemoth a boring wincon i asume.

Haha well done, i'm definitely jealous. :D

March 7, 2017 7:46 p.m.

Pleeber says... #16

Hipparchos I will replace him with Necropotence, I had Avenger, but I found him to be too spendy for what he does (unpopular opinion, I know)

March 7, 2017 7:54 p.m.

Hipparchos says... #17

I second this! :) I have this combo already in my Riku deck. Using it twice is indeed boring and card draw is always a very good choice though.

March 7, 2017 8 p.m.

Pleeber says... #18

Hipparchos Necropotence is, in my opinion, the best constant draw spell. The cards are almost on command, or you can choose to just keep with what you have. I plan to get rid of Ashnod's Altar and Extractor Demon. Not because they're bad, or because I haven't won with them, it's just that they can come back to bite me (grave shenanigans) and they don't win me much. I am looking to replace the altar with Burgeoning and probably something low mana cost to replace the demon. Probably another win con.

March 7, 2017 8:50 p.m.

Hipparchos says... #19

True that, but i still don't understand why Rites of Flourishing is in here. IMO you give every blue Player a huge card advantage. I'd cut it for Carpet of Flowers

Well another wincon will be Purphoros, God of the Forge, but i think you don't need that many. What about City of Solitude to keep control players in check?

OUT

  • Rites of Flourishing
  • Ashnod's Altar
  • Extractor Demon
  • Stalking Vengeance

IN

  • Necropotence
  • Burgeoning
  • Carpet of Flowers
  • City of Solitude

Oh I see, Purphoros, God of the Forge is already in here, my bad.

Hipparchos I will not remove he lantern because that is the best mana fixing ever. The city controls me, it'd negate a lot of my answers. Plaguelord is a sac engine in absence of prossh. Carpet of flowers is far too conditional, but I will replace rites

So I noticed you are a little light on tutors, mainly just Vampiric Tutor and Cruel Tutor. You also absolutely need more artifact removal, particularly ones that can't be countered like Abrupt Decay and Wreak Havoc, as I can say that from experience 99% of ppl in high tier will tutor up Torpor Orb, play it immediately, and reserve a counter or two to protect it.

Cheers!

March 8, 2017 8:16 a.m.

Pleeber says... #24

Entrei I am light on tutors because it is my firm belief that pure combo decks are weak, faster, yes, but more fragile. I know I need more artifact and enchantment hate, I do love those suggestions. I'm a big fan of Hull Breach, but I will put in abrupt decay if I pull it. Counter spells aren't all that common, and in my experience, people usually, I know not always, don't realise the power of artifacts and enchantments, that's why I run light there for now.

Can we trade metas? Mine blows up literally everything that doesn't produce mana that I play
