Any thoughts on including Hatred and/or Elixir of Immortality?

SynergyBuild says... #2

Hatred is good, but it is more of an aggro deck's pump card. Elixir of Immortality is cool, what would you drop for it?

For something like Elixir of Immortality, I’m thinking along the lines of cutting Thran Dynamo or maybe Empyrial Armor. What do you think?

SynergyBuild says... #4

I like the dynamo, you could drop the armor if you want.

Starsky2814 Update, since you asked. My Chromium deck is running pretty much as expected. I've played four games with it, 4 - 6 players each, and I am 4-0 so far. My group is already tired of the deck. Haha

It's pretty simple to tutor into either Traumatize or one of the enchantment returns, whichever is needed. I had two games where Traumatize wasn't very traumatic, and yet it was still potent enough to pull off the win. My group has found that Chromium is very hard to kill. They haven't succeeded yet, but one made it very difficult with Dismiss into Dream. Lucky for me, returning Aura cards via something like Replenish does not actually target.

Inanity, I’m glad to hear that your Chromium, the Mutable deck is playing as expected. Keep up the great work! I’m hoping to get some more games in with mine, since I’m final back home from the business trip. I’m looking to go 4-0 myself. I’m wondering how my meta has prepared for it, since they too did not appreciate what power is packed in the build. I’ll post more interesting success stories as they come.

As far as real suggestions: you need more basics. You only have 5 that’s dangerously low.

Actually, the deck effectively runs like 14 or so, due to the fetchlands, so the deck is perfectly fine. I mean if you wanted to make this deck a High Tide/Gush/Doomsday build, you'd run more islands, but that is about it!

BlackyMTG says... #13

@SynergyBuild I don’t really see the point in running 14 fetches either thoug.h.

Yeah duff87, Starsky2814 put a lot of work into this build, it is fantastic!

SynergyBuild, yeah! he really blew it out of the water on this one. Its super focused and looks like it would be a delight to pilot.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You’re far too kind, duff87. The deck is extremely fun to pilot and is fairly quick to get going. I tend to cast him on average turn 3-4 and because of this, he catches a lot of hate and focus. But he still outlasts everyone and this is without any control/removal elements added to the build. On that note, I am currently testing what the deck would be like with a splash of control for fun. I’ll have to consult with my buddy, SynergyBuild to get that one off the ground. Though, I don’t think I will ever truly change the foundation of this build. It makes a fine blueprint for everyone else and they can alter it to their own meta play style. Now that I’m done rambling, I’m very glad this has inspired you for your own brew. Come back and post it, I’d definitely like to take a look at it.

Starsky2814, you intrigue me with this control build... I quite like myself Force of Will, Swan Song, Mana Drain, Swords to Plowshares, Delay, Arcane Denial, Dismember, Path to Exile... and every other bit of sweet removal and countermagic.

Do you have a mock decklist?

This is what I have so far... it needs some tlc, but still maintains power and speed.

I think Minamo, School at Water's Edge and Batterskull both belong in the deck. I’ve also had a lot of success with Hammer of Nazahn, but my build is far more equipment centric. Take a peak if you like! I borrowed a card or 5 from your list, though initially my list was already really similar to yours. Link-> Blue-Eyes White Dragon (kills 99.99% of germs)

Bruna, Light of Alabaster might be fun here. Maybe not necessary, but still fun.

Kai-Erik, while Minamo, School at Water's Edge is tempting, this is a deck that rarely needs to untap Chromium, as that would generally imply blocking. This deck doesn't need to block, being an aggressive deck with lifegain. It also doesn't fix mana for the deck, leading to a lack of usability. Batterskull is an equipment, and equipments do not synergize with the Traumatize/Tunnel Vision + Retether/Replenish plan this deck is on. Hammer of Nazahn has the same issue. This isn't a normal voltron build, it is specifically an aura-based mass-recursion deck, with use of a powerful, protected commander to deal out unblockable, lethal damage with surprising swiftness. Equipments don't help here.

cthompson, the issue with Bruna, is her lack of protection, leading to blowouts where you drop 10+ enchantments on her, and they all are swiftly destroyed with a simple Swords to Plowshares or Rapid Hybridization effect. Since Chromium, the Mutable has a ton of built in protection, this deck doesn't have many enchantments that would fufill that role, needed to make use of Bruna. If we were to run more hexproof/shroud enablers, and more ways of givving unblockable, she could serve a purpose as a back-up Chromium, the Mutable, with built in recursion.

Both Protean Chromium, Elder Dragon (Budget Edition) and Chromium Voltron Budget (<$150) are budgeted variants on this deck if you want!
