Junk is by far my favorite color combo in magic and has been for a while. Thanks to JOU, junk now has the land base to become one of the most powerful decks in standard. With Great removal, creatures and spells in each of the three colors, WBG has the potential to match any top tier deck at FNM. What I'm personally looking to do is start the game with reasonable amounts of removal and and shift into a mid/late game with power creatures and planes walkers to win me the game. My current side board is meant for my Lgs FNM crowd (Lot's of weenie aggro). I'm looking for ideas, and all help is greatly appreciated.
Because I haven't fully acquired this deck yet, I'm totally down for suggestions to change it up.
Now to the package.
CREATURES:
Sylvan Caryatid: It's and amazing early game blocker, ramp, and it has hexproof. All around I think this is a solid card but I'm stumped when it comes to having 3 or 4 main board.
Brain Maggot: This card is everything I want it to be. It's a replacement to Thoughtseize, potential emergency blocker and damage. Brain Maggot does a great job and slowing down aggro and ramp decks. Late game it steals win cons.
Loxodon Smiter: 4/4 for 1GW is phenomenal and helps keep me above the curve. Smiter is in my opinion one of the best cards in standard, and it shows. He has great blocking potential and is one of the best beaters for its mana. This card is also anti-control and is thoughtseize's worst nightmare.
Courser of Kruphix: Haven't played much with this one, but it seems amazing. Though the mana cost is a little tricky, the payoff is wonderful. I'm gaining life, blocking threats and making sure I have consistent mana. We'll see where this goes, but I believe the Courser has a place in my deck.
Desecration Demon: This card is literally amazing in match ups that have little amounts of creatures to feed him. The demon is always a must answer threat, or the game quickly becomes one sided.
Erebos, God of the Dead: Erebos is a tricky one. I don't believe he's anything but a one of in my list, but this doesn't diminish his worth. Any match up with life gain is instantly trumped and their options are usually small. He dodges a good amount of removal being indestructable, and for that reason I boarded him. I don't see him as a creature to often though, but when he is, It's usually game over. On another note, Erebos provides card advantage in emergency situations along side the leisure of being able to draw when I'm winning and just looking for my win con. I really love this card, and hope for success based around him.
Blood Baron of Vizkopa: My magic carrier has been mostly dominated by every color but black. I've always ran decks that have white from the beginning. Blood Baron was the bane of my existence for my first half year of magic. It took me countless matches against this guy to really gain perspective on why I hated him so much. After a while I grew tired of losing to him, and researched the best methods of beating him. I seriously detested this card, but after a while doing my research, I began to love him. Now Blood Baron is my favorite card ever printed, and for good reasons. Pro white/ black gives me almost endless freedom in the standard environment. Life Gain gives me sustain and his artwork is cool, while being depressing. This card is the reason I started playing black in the first place.
Obzedat, Ghost Council: Obzedat is one of the greatest threats in standard, period. once he resolves, chances are hes staying for a while. The only reliable removal that can touch him is probably hero's downfall. He dodge's sorcery speed removal if played right. He is a beast.
REMOVAL:
Banishing Light: Removal that hits nonland permanents? for 2W? I'll take it. This deals with creatures, god weapons, and planeswalkers. All around amazing.
Doom Blade: Low cost instant speed kill spell. It's great in a lot of scenarios, but not enough so it's only a one of. Doom Blade is too often a dead card so I find it risky running more than one.
Putrefy: This card is amazing. Deals with threats when I need it to. It kills creatures and artifacts which is why I love it. The wonky mana cost, and the fact that it is 3 CMC but doesn't kill planeswalkers makes it a one of for me.
Abrupt Decay: Abrupt Decay is beyond amazing. At instant speed, it destroys any nonland permanent with CMC 3 or less. A top of that it CAN'T BE COUNTERED.
Hero's Downfall: Creatures gone. Planeswalkers gone. Downfall has a special place in my heart because it was the first Theros rare I pulled. It's a great card.
OTHER:
Underworld Connections: I love card advantage, and I love this card. While it is a little slow, in late game match ups it pretty much give away the win to the controller.
Whip of Erebos: Like Erebos himself, Whip is situational. It gives me great sustain against aggro, and the extra damage I need to win. It can bring back Obzedat. Permanently.
Elspeth, Sun's Champion: My third win con. She's a board wipe, Creature Generator, and Pump all in one. I can't get enough of this card.
SIDE BOARD:
Deicide: Deals with gods/ enchantments.
Devour Flesh: Good removal. My Lgs is sporting a fresh hexproof meta.
Drown in Sorrow: Kills weenies and give me draw knowledge.
Duress: Great against control matchups.
Nyx-Fleece Ram: I board this in against aggro. It provides AMAZING blocks and a little sustain.
Scavenging Ooze: This goes in against aggro and weenies. It literally destroys Mono white weenies.
Underworld Connections: Goes in against slow match ups.
Whip of Erebos: Comes in against aggro.
To end this description I wan't to say that I'm willing to change the whole thing up. I only want to learn, grow and become a better player. If you see anything wrong with my list please mention it. All feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Right now I think my main problem is the mana base. It's balanced but I'm not sure I have enough symbols.
I also want to thank my friends Damon, and Evyn for getting me into Magic. I never would have gained this passion without them.
