Myr Battlesphere seems like it would be very good in this deck.

I've thought about Myr Battlesphere, but here are my thoughts. As a 7 drop, this card would be the most expensive card in the deck, as you can technically bring out Blasphemous Act for so much cheaper. I could have mana to save for cards' abilities instead of spending it all at once. Also most games end before I get to 7 lands, and I think the threat of Purphoros speeds up the game nicely.Thank you for bringing it up, though!

Mister_Monday, hey. I have at one point considered it. however, Purphoros is always the biggest threat on the field. I'm always attacked quickly in multiplayer games, since everyone is hurt equally. If I bring out a card like Furnace of Rath or Dictate of the Twin Gods, it would mostly benefit my opponents unless I can kill them all in one turn. I noticed that a weakness with this deck is aggro decks, and giving them double power would kill me all the quicker.

I has to double-check this myself before posting, but Westvale Abbey can only played in a Commander deck with black in its color identity. For the same reason, I was sad to see Elbrus, the Binding Blade Flip isn't legal for my Kemba, Kha Regent deck.

Hello, BerserkWin. Thanks. I had to do a double check with that card, but you are correct. Shame. I never got a chance to use it, but it was never too important here. At least I get to keep my Hanweir cards.

Norin the Wary is bonkers with Purphoros. Cloudstone Curio seems like a good fit, though not budget.

Hi, Rob. Absolutely. Both Norin the Wary and Grinning Ignus syncs really well with Purphoros. I've thought about Cloudstone, and I'm still debating it. The part where a creature pushes another creature in my hand. At the same time, I'd never really have a dead hand. Thoughts, more thoughts. Thanks!

hey Rob,
I have a Purphoros deck, I think your missing out by not having a Warchief Giant and Confusion in the Ranks.
Check them out. and Good luck.

westbeach805, Warchief Giant is really cool, but he seems to be more of a side-deck for multiplayer games. I think Blade of Selves would be better. For example, you put the Blade on a ETB creature like Beetleback Chief and not only does he attack and make copies of himself, but he also make multiple amounts of goblin tokens that stays on the field!
Confusion in the Ranks is cool, but I'd hate for someone to put out an enchantment and switch it over with my commander. Too random.

you should add Impact Tremors and Outpost Siege so that way you shoot the opponent(s) every time a miniblin (1/1 goblin token) comes on the field and dies. and if you have lands to spare add Hammer of Purphoros so you can sac lands for terra cotta tokens. you should also add Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and Caged Sun so you can get extra mana from lands and other permanents (I personally love to use Nykthos to get a crud load of colorless mana and use it at my leisure).

Hello, ticked-off-squirrel. I already do have Impact Tremors in the deck. I took out Outpost Siege to make room for Panharmonicon. It is a good card, so I'm open to any other suggestion to pull out for it. :)
As for Hammer of Purphoros, I don't care much for the haste, and the land sac is a bit slow. 4 mana and one sac land to produce one creature to deal 2 damage isn't that impressive.Nkythos isn't a good card, because I try not to have devotion to red. That's to protect Purphoros from becoming a creature (and therefore more vulnerable). I used to also have Caged Sun, but it's been sniped off so quickly that I've usually wasted a turn bringing it out. I've replaced Thran Dynamo for it.

then would Battle Hymn be useful? I am sure it would with allot of miniblins. and you should take out Glacial Chasm. yes I know it protects you but you fork over allot of life to keep it and unless I am not looking in the right section this deck has no life gain so keeping it out is basically killing yourself. you should also take out Ruination since it affects ALL non-basic lands so if you got like Strip Mine or Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and you use Ruination they go bye bye and you will have nothing except basic lands.

Nice thoughts, ticked-off-squirrel. Let's talk. In the beginning, I used to play Battle Hymn. However, my opponents would "in respond" play a board wipe, essentially giving me 0 mana, most of the time. Im usually also used to having small amounts of tokens at a time (around 10), since I tend to get board wipe or sac them. It's still a great card, but in my game play it would just be a useless card in my hand. How do I start with Glacial Chasm... Well, I have a few opponents where their decks have infinite combos as they deal damage to you, like Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind. I only use Chasm for a few turns, and that would be in the turns where my opponents would announce or seem to bring out an infinite combo. It's an emergency land that I would only use as such, and hopefully I can find something to turn the favor (or just kill myself to not give them the satisfaction, haha). Ruination is a beautiful card. In this red deck, I don't care how many basic lands I have, if I have a strip mine, I can "in response", sac it to get rid of one of my opponent's basic lands. Valakut is nice, but I benefit more from ruination, especially because my opponents tend to run so much more nonbasic lands to work with multicolor decks. It will crush them. My cheap $.10 basic mountains will topple over their ruined $20-$200 Dual lands. Really long response, but what do you think?

you got a legit reason for Battle Hymn so I can understand that. as for Glacial Chasm unless you have some way of knowing when the opponent's start their infinite combo you wont know when to bring out chasm and if you keep it out too long you would kill yourself. now I wont lie I kinda enjoy spiting the opponent too by killing myself. but with the chasm you would have maybe a 2-3 turn buffer you can afford life for. so there is not much reaction time. plus the opponent could just camp while they wait for chasm to take you out or until you get rid of it. but that just my logic talking. great strategy none the less.

I don't see that much going on during your upkeep step within your deck. If you wanted to get around the cumulative upkeep for Glacial Chasm, use Eon Hub. It also hoses potential upkeep shenanigans within your playgroup.

Hello, spoonieluv1023. I don't really do much with the upkeep step. The point of glacial chasm is to just give me a few turns to summon enough creatures to hit my goal (20 creatures total in game). Sure, it'll probably be good for 3-4 turns. But mid game, when my opponents are losing 10-20 life, I can surely live with a little life lost for a possible win. So I'm not too worried. Hmm... What would you replace Eon Hub with, if you would?

I was looking at that, and the only thing I could possibly see would be one of the wheel effects. You don't really want your opponents to have a fresh hand of seven cards to possibly use against you unless it's partnered with some sort of draw/discard and drain. I see why you use them, which justify their spots. Overall, the list is extremely tight. Well put together, and was pleased with the dualcaster mage/heat shimmer combo. I had not seen that before.

Awesome! I'm pleased to help. Even if I don't use the cards personally, I love giving ideas to help make good decks. If I find any more cool combos or cards, I'll be sure to add them on the list. Thanks.

Snow-Covered Mountains for extra planar, or otherwise, other people will benefit off of it. Also, check out Grafted Exoskeleton. on purph, 5 creatures and everyone else dies.

Hey, maddoxmtg, if you read the description, the snow-covered mountains are on my to buy list. I'm just trying to save up the money to spend about $50 on land, you see. It's definitely still on my to buy list. As for Grafted Exoskeleton, it's an awesome card to kill with 5 creatures. My big issue is that I hardly ever get Purphoros's devotion to turn him into a creature. He just becomes an easier target. But that is a cool card. What would you replace it with?
November 6, 2016 1:10 a.m.
Grinning Ignus. Yes it is repeatable, but he isn't worth the cost when you have much better generation of creatures.

Hey Ocelot44. Good point. I was debating on another draw power card. I do like the idea of Reforge the Soul, because I can use Sensei's Divining Top to obtain the miracle cost. Not really feeling the Wheel of Fate, but I'm sure that some of our bros do. Thanks!
