think youre onto something here. just get more token gen like the 3 cast one from M14 where you flip a coin. basically you DONT WANT Purphoros to be a creature so he cant get his toughness lowered to 0. as long as he stays an enchantment he will be safe from almost all things. you also might only want 3 of him, since he's legendary you dont want your hand full of him.

Thanks for the feedback! And I did think about only using 3 (the unwritten Legendary rule), but since he IS my win-con, I want all the chances of getting him I can. However the status quo should probably stand, so I'll go to 3. Besides, if I really need to, I can hopefully just overrun them with tokens. I just don't want that to be the case or else Ratchet Bomb will be too good against me.

Anyway, sounds good. Although I'm not sure I need Molten Birth . I only need a measly 10 tokens to win (or 5 with both Tymaret and Purphoros out). I feel like more removal should be in order (perhaps Devour Flesh to deal with Fleecemane Lion and such). But I'll have to do some playtesting.

Soon as i saw purphoros i immediately thought about something similar to this. Glad someone else thought about it too. Tymaret is a great idea too. +1

Right? I'm kinda proud of Tymaret. When I first saw him I thought "Meh, the abilities are too expensive". But in this deck he really works. Plus it gives me a good reason to run black (because I'm expecting the "why not go American control?" questions).

Yeah man. Battlewise Hoplite and Daxos are crazy, among others.

several are crazy, plus you throw in Ethereal Armor , Madcap Skills , Brave the Elements , Ajani, Caller of the Pride and whatnot.

Seen the new red sweeper? A must include for this deck.

Yeah. The question is... is the extra damage from the Mortars worth the 3 mana? Also, exiling Tymaret would suck. But if Tymaret is out there, I can just chump check into something, then wipe. I think I'm gonna take out Doom Blade for Rakdos's Return as well.

I love this deck idea; I've been looking for a RB control deck, and this looks like a lot of fun.

I would try to help, but I honestly think you've nailed it. The only things I can think of doing would be to sub some other lands for more mountains; God forbid you don't have any for Chain (rare), the mana for a big Mizzium, or enough to set off Tymaret's ability more than once or twice. Just the sheer number of red cards you have, with most of them being your cheaper cards (Pyro, Magma, Dreadbore, Tymaret), too, it seems like just more red mana would be safer, rather than an even split.

I see where you're coming from. I'm actually going to remove Mizzium for Anger of the Gods once its on here, but thankfully most of these aren't too mana intensive. So I could probably lose the 2 basic plains for mountains.

Love it. I've been thinking a lot on these lines, but hadn't considered black (I was thinking American). +1

Yeah, American will be able to do pretty good too. Sphinx's Rev and Verdict are great. But I have these shocks :D and Tymaret helps a good deal.

If you want a stronger alternate win-con, isn't it an idea to include Ogre Battledriver to make all your tokens 3/1 haste? The way you poop them out would surely lead to an alpha strike when they are 3/1 or even further buffed by Purphoros.

September 17, 2013 5:47 p.m.

Unforgivn_II says... #16

By the time I have enough tokens to alpha strike, I would have already won by Purphoros' ability. Assemble the Legion pumps out the tokens in small enough increments early on that the Battledriver's buff wouldn't be extremely relevant. By the time token generation turns on, most decks will be able to block at least one if not more tokens safely (even 3/1s). The Battledriver is also pretty easily killed, where both Purphoros and Tymaret are very hard to remove completely. I plan on keeping tokens back as blockers primarily. The only time I'll swing is for the last couple points of damage I need.

Thanks for the suggestion though. And I mean it, it makes me think about what I want this deck to do and how to do it better.

The only thibg I would change would be add Hero's Downfall for Dreadbore instant speed is awesome when targeting a planeswalker like ashiok sure the have priority but it would be better than using double burn on it if that works or not

September 17, 2013 7:19 p.m.

Unforgivn_II says... #18

Hero's Downfall is pretty good. Its just a question of if that extra 1mana is worth instant speed. I'm not saying no, but I would like to wait to see what the meta is like before I go investing in them. I already have the Dreadbores.

No problem, I'm pretty new to MTG (playing since M14) so I'm just making suggestions to learn if and why they are good or bad, so thank you for your response as well :)

The most expensive deck ever....

September 18, 2013 7:37 p.m.

Unforgivn_II says... #22

As far as Standard goes, yeah. Its a lot of hype though. Purphoros may maintain his price, but Elspeth will have to drop some. And of course, good ol' Thoughtseize will stay expensive. But since I already have all of the cards in current standard, I only need to get the goodies in Theros. I'll do whatever trading I can for the smaller things and probably end up buying some of the expensive things (maybe find a deal on eBay. I've done it before)

Just wondering but if yu have erboros and purphoros In the same deck can they both be played at the same time or. No ? Cause they are both legendary creature "gods"????

September 25, 2013 8:23 p.m.

Unforgivn_II says... #24

They can both be in play and stay. The "Legendary Rule" only applies to creatures/lands/etc with the same name. I think you are confusing this rule with the "Planeswalker Uniqueness" rule which does check the Planeswalkers' subtype when seeing which to sacrifice.
