Maybeboard

  • WELCOME! To my Token Forge, where we make tokens and burn people out with Purphoros, God of the Forge

  • This deck will make lots of tokens, and not just Goblins!! No, no, this deck will make all kinds of crazy tokens and then use them to our advantage. We have lots of Token Generators including some lands that make tokens as well.

  • We even added some new cards to the mix like Runaway Steam-Kin for mana ramp, and Legion Warboss for token generation, and Experimental Frenzy for some truly disgusting Shenanigans, and some psuedo card advantage.

  • The other sections will talk about infinite combos, synergies, and some regular combos that are just gross in the deck. Here we go!

  • As most of you know, there is a classic infinite token combo that is possible in almost any deck, because all it takes is a couple of artifacts and a creature that makes more than one token upon it's entrance or death. Those cards are Ashnod's Altar , Nim Deathmantle and the main creature for the combo, Beetleback Chief .

  • There are a couple of other creatures in the deck that will also trigger the infinite combo, but they are a bit trickier because they create 1 token on entry, and 1 token upon death; Goblin Marshal and Mogg War Marshal

  • How does this combo work you ask? Well hold your horses, I'll tell you.

  • You have to have Ashnod's Altar and Nim Deathmantle in play first, and then you can cast any one of the creatures listed above.

  • Upon entry they will make token(s). If they resolve, you then sacrifice the 1 creature token THEN the actual creature to Ashnod's Altar, making mana.

  • When the ACTUAL creature dies, it will trigger Nim Deathmantle . You pay the with the mana you just made, and bring back that creature. Doing this over and over again will always net you 1 creature token, thereby making infinite Goblin tokens.

  • Hopefully you have one of the 4 ways to give goblins haste out so that you can attack that turn and avoid a board wipe, like Fervor , Goblin Chieftain , Goblin Warchief or Hammer of Purphoros

  • Then you win! Simple as that (unless your opponent has a Vedalken orrery into boardwipe or a cyc rift... RIP...)

  • There are lots of cards in the deck that work well with tokens to generate damage, other than Purphoros himself, and cards that are dumb with lots of creatures on board.

  • You can use Siege-Gang Commander to throw goblins at people and deal damage, and if you have Dictate of the Twin Gods out, then you deal double damage to things. This works as removal, and to kill your opponent.

  • You want to turn all of your tokens into bigger creatures? Sure! Just play Hellion Eruption and make 4/4's instead, and make sure you have Purphoros out to get all of those damage triggers.

  • Mirror March is an interesting new card that has the potential to make a ton of tokens, and deal a ton of Purphoros damage. I usually don't like coin flip cards, but I can only imagine making copies of Siege-Gang Commander and etb triggering multiple times, or cloning Legion Warboss and have a bunch of tokens come in during the attack phase. It's just silly..

  • While the deck isn't completely Goblin tribal, it is a majority Goblins and Goblin token generators. So, cards like Moggcatcher , Goblin Matron , and Goblin Recruiter are your tutor cards! Being in mono-red this is huge to have tutor cards. These are essentially extra copies of the goblins that go infinite with your artifact pieces, or they can just go get whatever goblin you need based on the situation. Awesome includes.

  • Tempt with Vengeance is a fun, cheeky multiplayer card that allows you to interact with your opponents, and offer some goblins to them too. It's just being friendly right? Well, if you have Purphoros not really, because they you make just as many tokens as they did, and get more Purphoros triggers, and most likely kill them on the spot.

  • Best of all, Purphoros is INDESTRUCTIBLE! So the only way to get rid of him is to make me sacrifice him, or to exile him, or send him to my hand. But that's all fine.

  • Other than Purhporos, God of the Forge, there are other cards in the deck that will inherently damage your opponenet... and yourself :'(... while they are playing the game

  • Harsh Mentor is a great tool against decks that have a lot of mana sinks on board, rather than trying to cast spells. So for someone who's trying to pull off say, and infinite token combo like we talked about earlier, Harsh Mentor will punish them every time they do that. Seems good yeah? This also gets removed pretty fast..

  • Oh Zo-Zu the Punisher .. You die so so quickly, because you punish people just for playing lands!! That's the grossest thing you can think of, and it usually either gets countered, or dies IMMEDIATELY after coming on board, because it's just so disgusting. Who would play a card like this you ask? Me.. I play cards like this. My play group is lucky I don't play Jokulhaups , cause I used to and they got super upset..

  • Lastly, Dictate of the Twin Gods is just a damage doubler, and hopefully helps us end the game quicker because at least in my play group, they tend to play less enchantment removal than they do Artifact and Creature removal.

When I have more time, there will be more description on the way! I'll explain my land count decisions, and why I'm not running some cards that most people run.
