When I first saw
Mesmerizing Benthid
spoiled, I was thinking how great it would be to copy it with
Quasiduplicate
for all that ETB and hexproof value. Then I saw
Repudiate / Replicate
spoiled and thought it would be fantastic in this hypothetical deck as a copy effect that is still useful when there isn't anything worth copying on the field. When I saw
Biogenic Ooze
I knew I had to make the deck because it was just begging to be copied. So that's where the start of this deck idea came from.
There is also an explore base of
Wildgrowth Walker
,
Merfolk Branchwalker
, and
Jadelight Ranger
to help fix our draws and give us good value creatures (who work well with being copied might I add).
Growing Rites of Itlimoc
to help find creatures and give us lots of green mana to pump into
Biogenic Ooze
for when it flips, or to put into a
Hydroid Krasis
for lots of draw and lifegain on a massive flyer.
I'm still not sure what the 4 drop slot might want in it, I have
Sphinx of Foresight
there now as a way to help fix draws at the start of the game, and just because the deck is pretty weak to flyers, so having a good flying body I can copy easily is a help. I will probably test card:Frilled Mystic(RNA to see if the ability to counter things on a body is better than the extra flying defense and scrying.
Sideboard is pretty straightforward,
Negate
and
Carnage Tyrant
against control matchups,
The Immortal Sun
to help against planeswalkers and buffing our team/providing draws in general,
Crushing Canopy
for enchantment and flyer removal, two things this deck tends to be weak to. I really wanted to include
Mesmerizing Benthid
in the main but I find that it is only really good in certain matchups, namely against aggro and other midrange decks to give us chump blockers that freeze their guys and a big body that is resilient to removal.
