So, both for your deck and mine, What do you think of the new Bolt Bend ? The cost reduction may not happen much , but it's easy on the color base, CAN be cheaper, is a great ability to have available and most important, it fits in a Sunforger package quite well.

Also, as to questions you asked on that deck Bloodstained Chessboard a good while back, The diamonds have worked out wonderfully for escorting her majesty in early, and while the Fury Storm does drop a bit late, i've pulled some mass kills with it a few times. The other cards noted there were cut.

Hi have you considered Azra Oddsmaker ? I feel like it could replace Necropotence in the deck, losing your natural draw step always felt like a bad play in the early game, and the deck is already basically tutor tribal haha

ThaneGarrus That is certainly a neat card, may have to use it myself some time, but I feel it doesn't fit here. It's a more fragile permanent type, has more restrictions on the timing and quantity of the cards, and requires a gamble and an opening to execute, which may draw the ire of the one struck. Also the color restriction in necropotence means it often won't hit play quite that early. That's my take anyway, in the end it's up to precociousapprentice. It is a neat card though.

I think someone was asking about finding an older version of this deck (though I can't seem to find the specific comment again).

I have one here from Oct. 6th, 2018 for those interested: Marchesa: Politics, Aikido, & Control - Older Copy

This is pretty awesome TheCaptainsLog! I have been thinking about reconstructing an older version as well. I may link it in the primer, if that is OK.

precociousapprentice You are welcome to link it in the primer.

Now that The Elderspell is a card, do you think it will find it's way into the wish board of the deck to deal with Super Friends?

Love the deck by the way! I'm currently looking into making a version of this and have been referencing all of the budget alternatives you have in your reference section. Just wanted to say thanks for putting as much time and effort into building this deck and explaining it to others.

I'm curious what everyone thinks of Command the Dreadhorde . Seems like it could be a great play when combined with a fog-like effect, or with any of the bullet-proof combos like Solemnity + Delaying Shield / Phyrexian Unlife . That way you get a lot of value and take no damage / loss of life.

I'm still running those plus Solitary Confinement & Righteous Aura in my own version of this deck, so I'm really tempted to include it and see how it does.

Side Note: what would happen if I cast Command the Dreadhorde , and in response to that I cast Teferi's Protection ?

  • I'm assuming any permanents I have in play when Teferi's Protection resolves would phase out, as normal.
  • Then, I'd gain a bunch of new permanents from Command the Dreadhorde , and these would not phase out - they'd simply enter the battlefield under my control, and I would take zero damage.
  • Is there anything I'm missing with this interaction?

I have to ask. Now that the CaG have released there first statement and reworded rule 13 so that wishes no longer function in commander what changes will you be making goon forward?

Hi just a question. Which cards would you change if you had to remove sideboard?

April 29, 2019 9:14 a.m.

Ripwater says... #16

Spyrechild I've been running almost the same list as above, with a few changes to my meta (wich is really needed with this deck).

The wishes being banned I don't think is the end of the world. I rarely used them in the first place and often Mastermind's Acquisition went for a card in my deck. That being said, I would probably go for the following:

Burning Wish : Replaced by Insurrection . It's a wincon on it's own.

Mastermind's Acquisition : Replaced by either another tutor or Replenish / Yawgmoth's Will since they both protect your pillowfort enchantments by putting them back on the field.

Ripwater That's a Nice way to replace the wishes.

April 29, 2019 10:34 p.m.

Can you give me a link to the new announcement?

April 30, 2019 6:03 a.m.

Dango says... #19

To whom it may concern, they have not outright banned wishes.

They have modified the wording of rule 13 to include the new Karn. Yes, they also modified the wording in the sense that it no longer says it's up to the playgroup to decide how wishes function in commander. However, they have added in and formalized rule 0 simply to avoid redundancies in rules to come thereafter.

To recap, if your wishes functioned in your playgroup before this update, they would still work according to rule 0. I hope this clarifies some things, you can find the updates here.

I've recently to matched my deck to the current list.

As such, I find myself being targeted far heavier than in previous iterations of the deck. I wonder if the deck is moving further away from the foundation of Aikido. The addition of Pithing Needle, Aven Mindcensor, Containment Priest, Kambal, Consul of Allocation, Linvala, Keeper of Silence, Phyrexian Revoker, Sanctum Prelate + graveyard hate... we are proactively going after the opponents game plan, as opposed to responding to the culmination of it's efforts for our advantage. What's your thoughts on this? What provoked these changes?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but as I understand it, these changes were brought about from a more competitive, combo-centered meta. It makes sense needing stax pieces like these in a more cutthroat environment. However I agree that it takes the deck further from the Aikido ethic. The fun of the deck is letting people play theirs before actually winning. You just can’t realistically let fast combo decks do that. I feel that the more competitive the deck becomes, the less Aikido it is. My version of the deck is still semi-budget, and it plays more like this deck used to. It works wonders in casual metas that aren’t cEDH. I’m not sure how you could keep to true Aikido ethics in a competitive environment without proactively preventing fast wins.

Patolea says... #22

Both of you are correct.

Yes, the deck had to change in order to survive in the new meta of the creator, he explained this some pages ago.

I'm trying to use the older version but I'm facing two obstacles:

  1. The raising of the playgroup to a more competitive enviroment; and
  2. The hate of the players that already knows that I will steal the win out of theirs hands, a simple Windborn Muse became the priority target just to let my guard down and make me waste my answers.

With that beeing sad I'm thinking of reshape the list to a more "aggresive" stance, but I would like to remember that your decisions also made a big part of the aikido style, you can tax the table in order to slow the combos but letting the players develop their plans in order to fit in that Deflecting Palm in the right spot!

RobotCowhand says... #23

Thank you for the responses. I understand the necessary evolution of the deck within it's own meta. At what stage does it stray too far from the original intent of the deck? This isn't a criticism, it's more of a philosophical question.

"Your entire goal is to place no obstacle, whether material or psychological, in the way of them helping you to win" - Is this statement still be true with the decks current loadout?

It is kind of sad what the deck looks like now. Dont get me wrong i love this thread, and the creator for making such a sweet thing, but this deck has changed a whole lot from the original list i fell in love with. The iteration before he had to change it so drastically was what made me make a tappedout account in the first place. I get that he had to make the changes, but its sad nonetheless.

Weefy117 An user posted an older version some messages ago, check It out, it's still beautifull :D

I love to use this deck in an New playgroup, without the friends that "knows". The true Aikido shows it face, passive.... Passive.... Passive.... BOOM!!
