MAINBOARD:
Based off my old, old All Naya, Alara Standard deck, originally no rares, just cats, but I've decided to make the deck too damn good and get
Fleecemane Lion
in, because its ridiculous.
Qasali Ambusher + Quest for the Holy Relic + Whitemane Lion
, pretty much if a creature is attacking you, you flash in Ambusher, it resolves, then you flash in Whitemane because you can and bounce Ambusher back, then play it again because there is still a creature attacking you. Because magic. No seriously. It's legit. The downside is, once Whitemane enters and the trigger goes on the stack, if you only have one other creature you do HAVE to return it to your hand, which can be ok and let you cast more cats but it a small hole in the deck and can be played around but can also be used to bait out some spells.
If you have nothing to do at the end of your opponent's turn, but have a
Quest for the Holy Relic
out, you can just cast Whitemane to put a counter on it and then return it and keep doing it until they either, respond to it, or you can crack it for an equipment.
Speaking of equipment, this deck has 5 in the mainboard and 3 in the sideboard, obviously you can pick and choose where necessary. Since the inclusion of
Batterskull
I have actually rarely fetched for it. Reason being, once you crack Quest and the ability is on the stack, you don't get the equipment or attach it until it resolves, so if your opponent wants to respond to it, the timing has to be before you fetch, likewise, you have to give priority to them and you can't shortcut. When you get a sword with protection it pretty much just turns them off entirely. Then, SPECIFICALLY, when or if you find
Batterskull
with Quest, you DO attach it to a creature you control, and after you do, the Living Weapon trigger finally goes on the stack, it immediately unattaches and the Germ token comes in to attach to it. Essentially, it finds you a creature, but just keep that in mind.
Sideboard Notes:
3 more Swords --- Depending on the match ups, we can swamp swords at will or ever take out other equipment for it.
Kor Firewalker
--- Although it is not a cat, it's a body that has pro red, so it's something that can deal with some cards that Burn throws at us, I might try and increase the amount of these.
Ancient Grudge
is spot removal against artifacts, and
Spellskite
s, it could be increased or replaced.
Nacatl Savage
--- against Tron and Affinity, but you CAN NOT equip it with anything, it is a ground blocker. Possibly one of the weakest cards since I would out other enchantments, I would love to have another, better cat that does something similar or better.
Skylasher
--- well it's not a cat.. But the cat version of it
Nacatl Outlander
is completely underclassed in a competitive environment. Skylasher doesn't need Cavern, has Flash so it works very well with our Quest, and even late game can allow stabilization. Stops Delver in their tracks.
Rest in Peace
--- I'd really rather you not use a graveyard, thanks.
Path to Exile
--- This SHOULD probably be mainboard, but I decided to not just to keep the number of creatures up It comes in against fatties that I can't deal with.
Valorous Stance
--- Has a similar job to Path, but being able to have another mode, so I can side out Boros Charms more safely, is a nice choice.
Trophy List:
Affinity, uTron, Grixis Delver, American Delver, American Control, Restore Balance
