Get counters, equip, beat down. Simple. Usually people will choose to go Augentum Armor because (ahem) permanents include lands, and wrecking your opponents whole board after a few turns with a 7/7 Squadron Hawk is good. But Augentum Armor costs 6 to equip, and in removal heavy matchups the creature will be nullified easily, along with the threat of the armor.

That's where the gimmicky Elbrus (that you always wanted to play but could never bring yourself to) comes in. He costs a measly colorless to equip, and combat tricks ensue. With Augentum Armor, the creature equipped must declare the attack to achieve the desired result. With Elbrus, you can sacrifice Quest after blockers are assigned, and assure yourself a 13/13 flyer by the time the next turn comes around, because Elbrus just needs damage to transform. This makes him distinctly better in some match-ups (and a ton better in multiplayer, depending on the opponents), warranting him a mainboard slot. The rest of the deck is very similar to the original build piloted by Frank Karsten when it was standard. Feedback appreciated!
