Nivmagus Elemental was also i card i didnt see listed above, this card is interesting. Since Prowess, Kiln Fiend, Nivix Cyclops, Wee Dragonauts work off your Casting of spells. they would still benefit the triggers but you would not resolve certain ones to pump him. A good example is Mutagenic Growth cast it to trigger your effects but before it resolves eat it with Nivmagus Elemental. Most people dont play him because the stack starts to get really confusing when he is out.

frogkill45 That is an interesting card indeed. So, to "control" a spell, you have to cast it and it doesn't have to resolve? It's unlikely I'd use Nivmagus Elemental, mainly because I'd like the vast majority of these spells to resolve to make stuff unblockable, draw cards, etc.

Lockwert I added it to the list of cards I want to make proxies of, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. The weather here in Michigan has been pretty blah lately, and will be the next week, so I'm sure I'll get to it soon :)

Artful Dodge one other card i use to use prior to Slip Through Space the one great thing about it is the flash back for this allows you to cast it twice for you dont get the benefit of a draw but you do get 2 triggers. Maybe this instead of Distortion Strike. Getting 2 triggers may be more beneficial if you can win that turn instead of only being able to play 1 distortion strike.

frogkill45 - I like it. I'm going to try 3 in place of Distortion Strike.

I really think you should find a place for that manamorphose in your main deck.

But I can give you an upvote

TheStormCrow - Haha. The problem I'm having is that this used to be a super budget deck... Since then I've added stuff and it's pushing $100. I got a super sweet deal on 3 Sulfur Falls for $17, so I couldn't pass it up. At this point I feel like I should just take "cheap" out of the title and go all out and add Simian Spirit Guides, Manamorphoses, and Steam Vents. (I'll prolly never buy Scalding Tarn)

So lets talk sideboard options Smash to Smithereens or Shatter because Chalice of the Void for 1 wrecks this deck (i know from experience)

Dispel great for control matchups

Shatterstorm harder to cast or Hurkyl's Recall <--- Better IMO for affinity

Izzet Charm versatile card

Vapor Snag useful bounce

I dont know where you play but my LGS has lots of tier 1 decks there so my sideboard tries to help vs everything

frogkill45 I've never played any events besides two prereleases, so I have no idea what people are playing (besides watching GP and pro tour youtube vdeos). I've only been playing about a year, and it's always casually with friends. That being said, I've always been curious about building sideboards properly. Everything you suggested makes sense, though. I would like to attend FNM at some point.

Played this deck and had a awesome time testing it out. Although it was my first time playing modern and i went 2-2. Pretty good score since only about 11 people showed up.

I didn't have a sideboard either, wasnt sure if i should just carry over burn spells from my burn deck i made a couple weeks back. Would love to see what your brewing for a sideboard soon.

+1 but why Artful Dodge over Distortion Strike ?

April 8, 2016 1:37 p.m.

Bloodveld says... #15

Heleg88 - Artful Dodge can be used twice in one turn to both double boost his guys and make two guys unblockable. +1/+0 is nice but it's likely you'll kill an opponent in a single turn.

lol fetchlands would finish this deck but they are expensive ;-;

frostdiggity says... #18

RyuujiTakasu - Yes! Right? I recently just dropped ~$40 on this deck to upgrade it.. but Scalding Tarn will probably never happen haha. Steam Vents are my next investment, along with a couple more Shivan Reef.

RyuujiTakasu says... #19

oh? yeah, and you'd normally need 8-10 fetchlands total :/ best you could hope is someone quiting mtg and selling out stuff cheap lol (happened at 1 of the fnm's a few weeks back and friend bought a competitive modern burn with 8 fetches, 4 goblin guides 1 promo, and everything else needed). Been spending $20-30 every few day to slowly build a standard deck, modern would be worse.

frostdiggity says... #20

RyuujiTakasu - Nice! I could technically use the 2 Wooded Foothills, 2 Polluted Deltas, and 2 Bloodstained Mires I have, but I'd have to buy Steam Vents for that to work.

April 8, 2016 9:51 p.m.

RyuujiTakasu says... #21

oh? yeah, but that could work if you get the vents :o they will really help in your deck because of that deck thinning into more spells with, lets say, Gitaxian Probe or Slip Through Space.

April 8, 2016 10:04 p.m.

I've sat here for 10 minutes, can't really think of something to beat this in time. I play tested 5 times and all were turn 2 kill (3 games if they had a creature)

April 9, 2016 2:43 a.m.

frogkill45 says... #23

Chalice of the Void on turn 2 for 1 Chalice is seeing some play now in sideboards

If your going to get Polluted Delta and Bloodstained Mire maybe pick up 1 of each of Blood Crypt and Watery Grave and toss in Tainted Strike. this will allow you to win with infect vs lifegain decks. Once had a match where i beat the guy turn 4, he boarded in life gain like mad and 2nd game was at like 35 life and i was able to win with infect.

You lose the entire game if the opponent has a single piece of removal or a single hand disruption, it might as well be casual so you should just pick up cards from the similar UR delver pauper lists, Gush Ponder etc.
