Rafiq of the Phelddagrif's

Commander / EDH Control GWU (Bant)

So I was looking around and decided I wanted to make a Rafiq edh deck (mainly because Phelddagrif didn't actually seem like a good commander, but I wanted to play it). I didn't really want to play a traditional Rafiq deck so I looked around online and saw somebody with a similar idea. This is what I came up with. After playing I've found that Phelddagrif actually makes a good commander in multiplayer games. The play style differs slightly from Rafiq, but it works much more in terms of politics. I've since changed it since gatecrash came out but I think it works much better now. I swapped out Venser in favor of Jace and found he is the superior walker. Venser was cute but didn't do too much in term of actually benefiting me. Maybe if the exiled card came back earlier than the end step he would be better :P Poor guy just doen't get enough love... Like I said the play style varies depending on the commander you use. Rafiq is much better in one vs. one, but not always the best for multiplayer. When using Rafiq for multiplayer, you can be as aggressive or controlling as you like. Just don't feed too many of your utility dudes to skullclamp early on if you take the aggressive route. As the game goes on, feel free to convert them into some more gas either by chump blocking or by making a second skullclamp with phyrexian metamorph. Control takes the deck to a better level in my opinion. Save fast drops for latter when their abilities will be relevant and focus on developing your mana base and hand. Knight of the Reliquary can be insane here as she finds almost all your utility lands very quickly. You'll also want to play a little bit like a group hug deck by removing threats that most of the table doesn't want in order to keep yourself alive until you can win (which you can do very easily). Pheldagrif is probably the most fun version of the deck to play if you like group hug. You won't be donating a ton of stuff, but giving opponents 1/1's for their skullclamps or a little life can be good. Giving them cards can be scary for the rest of the table though. You can dangle it like a carrot over their nose sometimes. I once got a Mayel player to eliminate two other guys before I wiped his board and ran over him. Mostly, this plays like a control deck though and picks off the threats that the rest of the table doesn't like while staying alive through politics. There are a few cards that are insane in all strategies. Trinket mage is going to find you mana, skullclamp, or top. Skullclamp is usually my number one choice. It can draw a ton of cards from your utility guys and from kjeldoran outpost. Knight of the Reliquary is another great creature. Find relequiry tower if your not under a lot of pressure because this deck draws a ton of cards. There is also one big laser machine that can take out at least one player per turn. Getting Rafiq in play along side finest hour is required, but then putting in either blighted agent or stormtide leviathon will quickly end the game. While rafiq can end it, its much easier to sneak past with unblockable damage.

Updates Add

Not sure why but it says all my gatecrash cards are illegal. Well gatecrash has been legal for 3 whole days now so tappedout probably just needs to update their edh list.
