Rage, rage against the dying of the light

Commander / EDH

intellegemus

This deck is focused on making the most out of its commander, Omnath, Locus of Rage . It's got no shortage of ways to get lands onto the battlefield, and it's even got some minor Elemental synergies.

Elementals

Some cards like Rubblehulk and some changelings are in here almost entirely because they trigger Omnath when they die. There's some land animation primarily because almost everything that animates lands makes them into Elementals.

At the intersection of Omnath's 2 abilities is the humble Fertilid . Without Omnath, Fertilid is kind of like a bad Explosive Vegetation, but with Omnath it's a bad Explosive Vegetation plus 2 5/5s and a Lightning Bolt. I'm still not certain it's that good, but it's certainly fun.

Lands

The best land in this deck is Gruul Turf , since it can bounce itself for a repeated source of landfall triggers. Gruul Turf + Omnath + extra land drops feels unfair.

I've been favoring basics over nonbasics due to the amount of ramp, but I've already seen that it's possible to rip most of them out of the deck, making it less likely that I draw lands late game (which, oddly, I often want to do). I've been considering cutting a nonland card to push up to 38 lands, and replacing some of the nonbasics with more basics.

Future Changes

I want to put more fetches in as I get them. My ultimate goal is to have all 7 fetches that get Mountains or Forests once the ZEN fetches become more accessible. Myriad Landscape is exciting in its ability to get 2 extra landfall triggers, but it's slow enough that it'll probably just get replaced with a basic.

This deck needs Oracle of Mul Daya , and it will have one as soon as I can trade for one. For now, you can build your own with Courser of Kruphix + Exploration .

Once the deck has more fetches, I might add Life from the Loam (I used to have one in, but I cut it because I tend not to have targets for it). Once Loam is back, it'll probably be worth having Hammer of Purphoros , especially with its synergy with...

The Infinite Combo

I'm of the opinion that most EDH decks should be capable of assembling an infinite combo, but that it's more fun when it's not the primary game plan. Here, the pieces are: Temur Sabertooth + Voyaging Satyr + Fires of Yavimaya + Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx . It generates infinite and infinite bounces. The goal is to combine it with a mana sink ( Comet Storm ) or something that can end the game with its ETB triggers ( Craterhoof Behemoth ) or something that will find me one of the former ( Genesis Hydra ).
