Sideboard

The idea is to build a deck that can compete at my local FNM for less than $100. The theory then was to seek win conditions that the local game wouldn't be prepared for.

So we've built a deck with abnormal win-cons: it's a Maze's End deck with Bant control to keep things locked down. We have multiple Maze's Ends to accelerate through the deck as rapidly as possible and to keep our wincon open. We also use Haunted Plate Mail and Crackling Perimeter as backups. In a last-ditch effort we can bring Vraska the Unseen and launch her ultimate to find another win condition.

After that it's relatively straight-forward control to keep the board alive until the win. Our biggest worries are (unsurprisingly) black devotion and control decks that have a stronger aggressive option (i.e., Aetherling). Playtests after bringing in Pithing Needle (to lock Pack Rats) and Erebos (to cut Gray Merchant of Asphodel in half) as well as obvious creature counters show that we have a favorable sideboard option there, though. For more aggressive control decks, we simply have to make each control play count: it's hard to respond to a Counterflux.
