Is it possible to brew a deck that is very easy on the budget, has good power and synergies, is fun to play, and even follows a cohesive theme? Turns out it is!
I Love Feedback
Halp!! I am continually trying to refine my decks. Your input is greatly appreciated; feel free to comment. If you go so far as to playtest the deck, please let me know how it went (I'm flattered that you would try). Also, a +1 is always appreciated.
This deck is an allies deck, and the bulk of the cards were already present in BRZ. Additions from SOI (Eerie Interlude, Cryptolith Rite) have addressed some of the weakness of the deck. It brings in good champs from (almost) all of the colors. If you wanted to take the theme further, you could spread out the champ choices, using some of the good cards from the maybeboard, and even add in the not so powerful General Tazri. Instead this deck tries to crank out maximum value from a subset of the good ally champs. Getting an ally on the table will primarily synergize with Kalastria Healer, Veteran Warleader, Stoneforge Masterwork and Cryptolith Rite.
Creatures
This is a creature focused deck, and they are all allies. One added benefit from this is that our Ally Encampment is effectively a 4 color untapped land!
Veteran Warleader is the champion here. The deck attempts to go wide, and he can get very big. More imporant are his optional abilities. If he is big, you can send him at the opponent. If they chump block, then you can give him trample after blockers are designated. If they put in enough threats to kill him, or an equal sized creature, then you can give him first strike, often for devastating effect. If you need him for defense, he can have vigilence too.
Beastcaller Savant is an efficient multicolor mana dork with haste and serves as another body.
Skyrider Elf is a versatile choice. Early on it can be a flying 2/2 or 3/3 and slow down an aggro deck with flying weenies. Later on it becomes a 5/5 flier. A card that scales with the game is very valuable.
Tajuru Warcaller is great and is just broken if she triggers more than once. If you drop a 4 color Unified Front, your creatures will all get +8/+8. Nuts! Even just getting +2/+2 as a defensive "battle trick" with Retreat to Emeria can make for a powerful move.
More Allies
Having lots of allies on the board is key to success. Eerie Interlude is an important piece from SOI that allows us to react to a sweeper or even an attack on a key single unit and preserve our board state. If there are multiple Kalastria Healers in the blink, the re-entry drain can hit hard. If that fails, March from the Tomb can help us rebuild. Unified Front can give us a flood of allies fast, but they won't be protected by Eerie Interlude which is why we focus on actual 1 and 2 CMC creatures.
Not retreating
Normally, the allies' Rally ability is unavailable during an opponents turn. However, this deck includes Evolving Wilds and Warped Landscape. If we "crack" those on the opponents turn, and we have a Retreat to Emeria on the board, then we trigger Rally. With our deck, this will not just add a 1/1 ally token, but can even give all of your champs +2/+2, lifelink, and first strike.
Finally, Bring to Light becomes powerful in this multicolor deck. It can tutor for exactly the card we need, and lets us get away with one of's for the allies that we are including for their rally trigger.
Upgrades
This deck is made very cheap. A few small upgrades don't change the deck much and are not too pricey. I would suggest the following if price permits:
2 Ultimate Price -> 2 Anguished Unmaking. This is a more versatile tool and our Kalastria Healer triggers can offset the life lost.
Forsaken Sanctuary to Caves of Koilos. Meandering River to Port Town. Tranquil Expanse to Fortified Village. These better lands will be useful in your other decks as well.
2 Stoneforge Masterwork -> 2 Painful Truths. The masterowrk is strong but needs us to already be doing well. On the other hand, The deck is prone to stalling, and the card draw can be key at times.
In the sideboard:
2 Negate -> 2 Hallowed Moonlight which shuts down several opponent decks.
Flaying Tendrils -> Virulent Plague can completely shut down a token based deck. We can tutor it with the Bring to Light
