With the Twin ban, how important is Auriok Champion in this build? I know I asked about it in the bitterblossom list and I understand its importance there, but you don't take as much damage in a Raise the Alarm list. I'm thinking there might be space for additional lands and a Gideon or 2 if the Champion isn't as necessary. Making those changes might mean shaving the 5th anthem would be good as well. Until I get a set of blossoms, I'm running a build very close to this one and including the Champion is foremost on my mind as far as what the new meta will look like without Twin.

Oh this list still needs some updating post ban. Check back in a day or two and it should be updated to the new meta shifts.

Any creature(s) you recommend running mainboard until one can afford the Auriok Champs?

I have been running Suture Priest but since I don't have fetches I have been thinking about running Leonin Arbiter

I would not recommend either suture priest or leonin arbiter. Unfortunately there just isn't a true replacement for auriok. The protection from black and red protects her from most removal spells, and every other life gain creature just can't compete with that.

Yeeeeah. Auriok Champ is pretty unique - adds quite a bit to the list. I adore Mentor but I understand why he's not the best for us, have him filling my 2x creature slots for now simply because I own 'em - considering Warden but she also usually insta-dies.

Mardu is way more Mentor-friendly and might be a better path for me at the moment, due to my current collection, if I want to play tokens. I'll post link later though!

Is Elspeth still better than Gideon in this version?

February 16, 2016 2:24 p.m.

xzzane says... #11

Elspeth is very good in raise the alarm shells, but I have yet to decide whether or not Elspeth or Gideon is better in these shells. Both are excellent choices.

It is a lot harder to double proc Timely Reinforcements in a Raise the Alarm shell, which is why I do not suggest maining it.

What is your local meta? You may not need them.

Hey xzzane, are you changing this deck up for SOI? Are there any updates? I've been running a bitterblossom build but I'm changing back to a raise the alarm shell since it is a bit weaker and I enjoy playing against some of my friends with this shell. It leads for a more competitive game as opposed to me simply controlling and winning. I haven't been following this shell so I really don't know the meta for it any more. Any help?

Do you want this updated to the generic meta or to a specific one?

Jack-Frost says... #18

Generic meta is fine. I can adapt it to other metas but you know the meta much better than I do to start me off. Thank you!

hey @xzane, im a huge fan of the deck but. I read the primer but didnt see anything about how we handle scapeshift (both titanshift and bringtoshift), abzan company, or jeskai control, Any tips for these match ups ? are we favored game 1 ? sideboard tech options?

Certain matchups have yet to be added, those must be some of those that I'm missing. Scapeshift and Abzan company are bad matchups, jeskai control can be bad as well due to the amount of field wipes they can have. It's been a while since I've played against jeskai control though honestly. There are a variety of sideboard options available against Scapeshift like Leyline of Sanctity as a hard counter (though they can always bounce with Cryptic Command and cards like Duress which help narrow their card pool. Abzan company, it can depend on whether or not they use the combo version or just the aggro version. The combo version can be stopped with Rest in Peace, and the aggro version can be hindered by Grafdigger's Cage. Duress is just a good catch-all against any control type deck, so I would advise always having at least 2 Duress in your sideboard.

May I ask what the Shambling Vent's are for? Also, you have 16 cards in your sideboard.

xzzane says... #24

So I do. And Anguished Unmaking is fantastic, but bolting yourself in the face hurts. Vent is there to offset the lost life.

Jack-Frost says... #25

Got it. Sorin typically covers that problem for me, but the redundancy is nice. Also, I kinda wish I had seen this update before I went to my local draft tournament. I didn't realize I would still need Gideon so I traded both of mine for some cards I needed and now I have to go find more.
