Hey TappedOut, looking for some input on a homebrew!
This is my attempt at making a competitive standard deck that doesn't use fetch-lands and can be purchased on a reasonable budget. I've tested this at 4 recent tournaments, the last being after Oath was cycled in, and gotta say it's a fun build!
The main problem for RDW in standard right now is card advantage in the late game, so this deck aims to put your opponent in stressful combat situations from turn one in order to force them into spending control resources on low value creatures like Monastery Swiftspear, Zurgo Bellstriker and Mardu Scout to clear the way for Dust Stalker or Chandra, Flamecaller in the late game.
Abbot of Keral Keep, Titan's Strength and Read the Bones help to maintain card advantage during the early fight and Avaricious Dragon maintains card advantage in the late game. Avaricious Dragon combos nicely with the Dash-ers and Dust Stalkers if you stack your triggers so that you discard your hand before returning any dashed creatures.
So far it's best match-up has been vs. esper dragons and esper control, does well in the aggro mirror match (usually atarka) and can board in very nicely for abzan. Had the most difficulty boarding around the popular ulamog/kozilek ramp, especially thanks to Kozilek's Return which I can't figure out how to deal with.
I'm curious to hear what you guys think about what new tech I should prepare for now that Oath's out, and any other advice on the deck.
DISLCLAIMER I know the deck would be a lot more efficient with 4x Bloodstained Mire; with 4 fetchs the deck could easily play premium removal like Grasp of Darkness, Ruinous Path, Remorseless Punishment in the main deck, but without the consistency of fetching, double mana symbols are too risky. This version of the deck is strictly built with no fetchs, but of course if you're willing to spend an extra 150 bucks, I think this deck could hit really hard.
