Try Hellhole Flailer & Lightning Mauler, paired and unleashed they give a blindlingly fast clock.

Also how many games would say Fervent Cathar has done anything relevant?

I may try different creatures down the road, but for now everything 2cmc and above innately has haste already in this deck but thanks :)

Back to the Fervent Cathar again... hard to say what you would consider relevant but I am going to assume you mean its citp effect. There is only 2 in the deck so I saw it like 3 times during the tournament and once it was just another hastey swinger and the other 2 it allowed me to attack without sustaining any casualties.

T1 - me: Rakdos Cackler - them card:Avacyn's Pilgrim

T2 - me : Ash Zealot attack for 4 - them tap all for Loxodon Smiter

T3 - me: Fervent Cathar attack for 6 b/c of no blockers - them: oh shit

By turn three I have 3 creatures and they are at 50% life because of the Fervent Cathar . Just one example.

Fervent Cathar is insane. I feel like I'm going to add him to my deck! Thanks for the great deck! +1

how does this deck do when against azorius detain.

I'm interested in how this deck would do against azorious detain/control and a strong selesnya lifegaining flicker

It largely depends on the hand you are dealt and what the opponent has. I can not predict what would happen. I can however tell you that I am playtesting this deck against LifeGainPain! and it does fairly well most of the time.

If you want to play it yourself against another deck feel free :)

I think the Haste in this deck laughs at Detain a little bit.

November 17, 2012 7:49 p.m.

Ixthinon says... #11

Yeah the haste generally is over-powering to a detain reliant control.

Wow I really like this deck! Played it just casual against 3 freinds (without aristrocrat :c), and it did really well. I'm loking forward to getting more (by more I mean any :D) Aristrocrats, and trying it out. Definite +1, but the only thing I could think of was maybe cutting back on the 2 Pillar of Flame , and putting in 2 Searing Spear . Obviously no need to fix something doing so well, but I just think the searing spears are good, because Thragtusk gives me nightmares :D.

Thanks man ! There is already 4 Searing Spear 's in the deck in addition to the 4 Pillar of Flame 's :)

Also, against Thragtusk 's I really like to sideboard in Traitorous Blood :D

Just was thinking, not sure how much it would actually help, but have you considered Cavern of Souls to give you your black mana for summoning creatures? It would unfortunately only tap for colorless mana for your spells, but it could also get you out of a bind when you need that black tap for Falkenrath Aristocrat , you could call caverns vampire for your Stromkirk Noble at beginning of game, and it would tap for black later for falkenrath..

Just a thought!

Falkenrath Aristocrat needs to come out for Thundermaw Hellkite . You do not want to sac your creatures in RDW. Plus it'such a waste to run dual lands for one alright card.

Okay so Falkenrath Aristocrat vs Thundermaw Hellkite .

The vamp has 1 less CMC (can be the difference of casting it and not casting it), the option to be indestructible, and the ability to grow from creatures that are likely to die anyways during the all out assault. Also it is not uncommon to have my ground forces halt the attack so they can block, when they do I can sacrifice them then to pump her up. Again the creatures would die anyways. Not to mention the sideboarding of Traitorous Blood in which case she can finish the creature off before it is returned. I think all of this makes the Falkenrath Aristocrat the natural choice for a deck like this.

Oh and the black also allows me to construct a more robust sideboard that can adjust to a greater variety of threats. Being mono red that would be very limited.

Wow do I feel dumb, I even replicated this deck, to see how I liked it, and I didn't even see searing spear........ lol

Love it. Building something similar very soon. +1

Lustrigia says... #20

You do not want Falkenrath Aristocrat fighting for the spot of 4-drop with Hellrider . It's your deck, and I acknowledge that. But for RDW, Thundermaw Hellkite is the better of the two. Especially when there's 3 instead of 4, 3 5-drops aren't hurting anybody at 22 lands.

MTGNoobs says... #21

Another thing to consider....an electrickery will kill an aristocrat....you have a cackler, shredfreak, noble, and aristocrat on the board, they overload it (for 2 lousy mana) and your SOL.

November 19, 2012 10:23 p.m.

Love the deck! What do you do with a mirror match-up?

November 20, 2012 8:52 a.m.

Long_Con says... #23

MTGNoobs, he would simply sacrifice the Rakdos Shred-Freak when that happens, and make the (now 5/2) Aristocrat indestructible till the end of turn.

November 20, 2012 10:11 a.m.

Ixthinon says... #24

With a mirror match-up as in RDW vs RDW? Its the same as every strategy - hit with the maximum possible force with the minimum expenditures. Just do the math and make sure every choice is the right one for Max damage !

November 20, 2012 10:25 p.m.

Long_Con says... #25

Maybe a Stensia Bloodhall or two might be useful to push that extra little bit of damage through after you start topdecking and your opponent begins to stabilize.
