When transferring from the mono black to the B/R build, I (automatically) changed from Infest to Pyroclasm at first and after that to Anger of the Gods . The first change was to lower the cost / aka increase speed, but also resulted in immunity for the Phyrexian Crusader . Soon I realized that the speed is not the most important thing, I wanted to make a noticeable board wipe, I changed them to Anger of the Gods . My Crusaders were still unaffected, but the Anger does get rid of Voice of Resurgence , persist and undying creatures. Also worth mentioning, whenever a creature dies that has been damaged by Anger of the Gods in the same turn, it will be exiled. We will not see it back :)

However, soon I also realized the downside of Anger hitting different things than Infest (/Drown in Sorrow ). Yes my Phyrexian Crusader will stay, so does 'that pesky Etched Champion ' (thanks for the nice description Leonato). Shatterstorm will be a (very) good sideboard card in a Affinity heavy meta. Knowing that for a while I had three(!) Illness in the Ranks in the sideboard against the many token strategies in my meta, I think it's definitely worth the try!

I'm really thinking about including at least one Shatterstorm on my sideboard. Don't know what card(s) I'll replace, but probably one Sowing Salt . Most folks who played Tron in my meta no longer play Tron (due to the rise of Zoo decks - welcome back Wild Nacatl :)), and I'm seeing some new Affinity decks, as well as a Breakfast at Urza deck.

Ok, one Pithing Needle and one Sowing Salt out, and two Shatterstorm in. Currently, a couple of folks started playing Affinity decks (and there's also a dude playing Breakfast at Urza).

OTOH, with the rise of Naya Zoo decks and the decrease of Jund, Tron is less played, so I can drop one Sowing Salt .

Thanks Leonato for the hint :)

Oh, a pleasure. Actually I love affinity, but I don't play it cause I feel like I'm cheating.

Happy smashing! :3

Hey dudes!

I've been following this awesome deck of Walrusyn for several month and I'm amazed about how the deck has improved as time passed.

We all know how badass are "tier 1" decks in Modern, but I love people that try another way and then, with the help of the community, creates a competitive deck that can give a surprise to more than one aforementioned tier decks.

And to finish all this stupid babbling of mine, I'll ask you a favour:

I've created a new Modern deck. It's just a new idea that have been in my mind for a couple of days, and finally written down. I need help in my first steps here, you know they are the hardest, in order to be heard by the community.

Thanks for all guys, you're awesome <3 Pox Algae (BG Mana Denial)

@Leonato: thanks for your kind words :) That is exactly what I've tried to do with this deck: a different, creative and unique deck, instead of playing a Tier 1 deck that everyone knows. I think it's competitive enough and, above all, very fun to play :)

These were my goals and this deck wouldn't be the same without the help of this community and I'm very grateful... :)

And I'm glad to help you out with your deck... :)

Once again, thank you.

I went 3-1, due to GP Vienna, there were only 4 rounds

round 1: u/b mill, 1-0thoughtseized and inquisitioned all their removal cards away and hit him for 10 infect with runechanters pike on crusader and swampwalk on turn 5, happened both games

round 2: izzet burn/ control 1-1he countered all my crusaders and burned the rest of my creatures away as soon as i started attacking him on game 1, game 2 i managed to make him discard & exile all of his counters and won because he couldn't get rid of crusader, game 3 he overran me with an army of young pyromancer tokens

round 3: affinty 2-1lost game one on turn 4 due to massive drops on turn 1, after that i sided in 2x devour flesh, 2x shatterstorm, 3x rakdos charm, 1x terminate and won both games with ease

round 4: r/w aggro/ burn 3-1due to protection from white and red on the crusader, it was a very easy game for me, he scooped game 2 after i landed my 2nd crusader on turn 4

all in all i am very happy with the deck, its very funny to play and since it was my first try in modern, i am also very happy with my 3-1

changes i made:

-1 Raven's Crime -4 Rise/Fall -2 Liliana of the Veil

+1 Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon +3 Thoughtseize +1 Terminate +2 Runechanter's Pike

This is an interesting deck. I would suggest the artifact That Which Was Taken , it's a little pricy for mana but it'll save you a headache from destruction spells in the long run

Not enough creatures, and of the creatures you have they cost quite a bit. Would have had you down to 5 or less life before you could put a creature down. Not enough pump spells or infect creatures.

Legendaryone this is not an aggro infect deck.

This one have a lot of control and disruption cards to settle the board.

Then, you just need one creature and a few swings.

Legendaryone says... #21

All I need is 4 Daze and Murder then all your creatures are gone. Maybe you should throw in a Fireshrieker

April 1, 2014 11:42 a.m.

Walrusyn says... #22

Legendaryone allow me to disagree, that's not the strategy of the deck :) As Leonato said, the strategy is to use control and disruption cards on the early turns, and then, most of the times, one creature is enough to finish the game. Believe, I've played hundreds of games with this deck against all kinds of decks (and the win ratio is pretty good :)).

Walrusyn I respect your argument I am not saying this is a bad deck I just would throw a few pump spells in like Titanic Growth or maybe even Enlarge I do think that green is a better infect color than black but I bet this is a great deck.

Vampire's Bite and Funeral Charm are there as pumping spells. While the bite is more powerful (3 posion counter for 1 black mana), the charm is more flexible because it could works as removal, discard or evasion.

Talking about Vampire's Bite , how is it doing over the Runechanter's Pike ?
