I'd add in some storm breaths for some survivability after turn 5. Only like 2 should be fine. And I'd use spot removal over burns any day so more doom blades? Other than that it's a nice fast deck. The only problem I have with aggro decks is in current standard you have to kill your opponent before turn 4 at most. Anger of the gods and supreme verdict along with the new drown in sorrow I believe has made agro just to weak.

I don't have stormbreath dragons included because they are not only expensive, but also a 5-drop, which I don't think would save me if the game dragged on that long. It kind of leads to why I only have 2 doom blades and 4 lightning strikes. I have won a noticeable number of games with lightning strikes on turn 5-6 where the opponent only had 3 health left and I needed a burn to the face.

On the other hand, I do agree that agro is weaker than most midrange decks after they sideboard and especially after more sets come out. After BotG, I will probably transition more towards a midrange deck centering around Mogis God.

@doadarrellroll, Thanks a lot. As this is the first deck I've ever posted online, I really appreciate the love. Ofc, I also really appreciate the criticism, but I like the positive comments more ;)

Have you consider titan's strength as a way to get an extra 3 damage in and scry?

January 29, 2014 2:15 a.m.

Zyrxii says... #6

Ah, yes. I definitely have considered it. The only reason why it's not in my deck is because my deck aims to win on turn 4 or 5, even turn 6 at latest (with a burn probably). However, in order to get a fast win, I generally don't have mana left untapped (unless I'm unlucky). Since my creatures pretty much all have haste, except cackler, I use up all my mana during main phase 1 to summon them and swing. If I have leftover mana, I save it for a shock on their turn.

Ya i had thought about titans strength as well but i honestly think that will slow this down, And I'm definitely looking forward to any other decks you post.

Was wanting to make an aggro deck and it was between Rakdos and Gruul but i think Gruul just relies on combos a little to much.

this is just pure in your face beat down not "oh if i draw this card your done for" and its on a budget I'm definitely looking forward to trying this.

doadarrellroll, I'm glad you like this deck so much. Though I said that Dreadbore can be replaced by Doom Blade in order to make it more budget, I would strongly recommend that you buy at least 2 if you plan to bring this deck to a FNM. The current meta everywhere has a TON of planeswalkers that you definitely don't want to deal with. If this is going to be used for casual play among friends, then you can drop the Dreadbore and just have fun losing friends XP

Zyrxii says... #10

In fact, if you want to make this EXTREMELY budget yet still effective, drop all the Legion Loyalist and Dreadbore and replace with Foundry Street Denizen and Doom Blade .

Dragonfish17 says... #11

So I've run loyalist in a couple of decks and I love him as a card but I always feel as though I could live without it. So can you explain what he does for you?

January 29, 2014 4:02 a.m.

Zyrxii says... #12

Sure! It's battalion effect can be a real game-changer! It's value greatly depends on how likely it is that you will be able to proc his battalion effect. Since it is only 1/1 and vulnerable to a myriad of threats, I think of him as a kind of combat trick. I drop him as my third creature to proc his battalion and blindside my opponent to either gain board adv or to smash his face in if he declares no blockers.

Although I prefer cackler as my turn 1 drop, I would still always want a legion loyalist in my hand. With this deck, specifically, I am usually swinging with 3 creatures (one being loyalist) by turn 3, which is usually when the opponent has one (two max) blockers ready. With the first strike and trample, my opponent hesitates to block and even when he does, I won't lose my creatures and some damage will still trample over.

He really shines in this deck because he gives me the push I need to overcome board stalls and lets me circumvent situations where I would have to trade my creatures in order to do some damage.

Of course you do want 4 Blood Crypt , and Hero's Downfall is much better than Doom Blade which I would drop to the sideboard. If you are on a budget than disregard the Blood Crypt suggestion, and use Ultimate Price over Doom Blade and drop Doom Blade to the sideboard.

Dragonfish17 says... #14

I wouldn't recommend ultimate price. There's more multicolor than black creatures and if you are facing black just swap them out with dark betrayal.

Zyrxii says... #15

@quesobueno123, Yes, ideally, I would want 4 Blood Crypt . The only reason I don't have 4 of them is due to my lack of funds. I also agree that Hero's Downfall is more versatile of a card than Doom Blade , but since I'm playing Rakdos, I am able to use Dreadbore as my Hero's Downfall alternative. Not only is it cheaper in mana cost and real money cost, it does not require two of a single color to play. Considering I only have one shock land, it is dangerous for me to rely on a black-reliant card, such as Hero's Downfall . I tend to finish games with only 4-5 lands out on my side of the field and it is surprisingly common for me to only have one swamp or one mountain out for a whole game.

As for Ultimate Price , I chose to use Doom Blade because the only strong mono-color decks in the current meta are Devotion-to-Black Pack Rats and Devotion-to-Blue. Before Drown in Sorrow and Bile Blight , my Rakdos rush crushes Devotion-to-Black nine times out of ten. As for Devotion-to-Blue, Doom Blade would work against any of their destroyable creatures.

Just found your deck +1

I have a VERY similar deck that I have played for a while now (not on-site yet). Ironically, I have also decided to shift to a more midrange deck and have chosen dega. This deck inspired me to look back at my Rakdos Aggro. With all that being said, i'm curious as the to card Deviant Glee . How important do you feel it is?

I also liked the idea of Frostburn Weird in sideboard! May be adding that to my own soon.. Have you ever considered Ash Zealot ? Playing a more RDW splash black variant i found it very helpful. This was without Mogis's Marauder of course.. Really just curious how you feel about it

Do you think Ash Zealot and Purphoros, God of the Forge would fit?

Zyrxii says... #19

@noobplayer17, Glad to rekindle some nice memories. So, I REALLY like Deviant Glee over the cards I used to run (2 more Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch , a 4th Madcap Skills , Xathrid Necromancer ). It's a 1-drop of the Swamp mana, so it helps to balance my mana use. Also, it is extremely useful for giving me trample right when I need it. I have definitely gotten through some dicey situations with the trample add-on.

Frostburn Weird is a TERRIFIC sideboard card for when you run into another agro deck. Once you play it, it shuts down any early damage they might try to inflict. It is also a huge counter to this deck haha.

I have considered Ash Zealot for this deck. Just like with Hero's Downfall , this deck cannot afford to run cards that require two of the same mana. "I tend to finish games with only 4-5 lands out on my side of the field and it is surprisingly common for me to only have one swamp or one mountain out for a whole game." Obviously, that's if you are planning to play this deck. If you wanted to play a RDW variant, I would def suggest Ash Zealot and instead, switch to a Fanatic of Mogis centered deck.

Also, if I'm going to include a god, I'd choose the Mogis God because 7-devotion to B/R would be very doable, and even if he's not a creature, his 2-damage or sacrifice is a huge asset.

I really like this deck, so you get a +1 from me. I've been looking for a rakdos deck like this to build on a budget. However, How well do you fair against Elf/Goblin (Zerg) decks. I have an elf deck right now Elf Beatdown(for some reason it wont link it) that I think would struggle pretty bad against. Most of the time I can drop my hand by turn 2 and have 5-6 creatures. That trample helps a little bit. But like this deck it's built to win by turn 4. I've done 400 trample damage by turn 4 so taking little pings is no big deal. Just wanna hear your thought on a counter for that

February 1, 2014 3:01 a.m.

Zyrxii says... #21

@Vito1014, Thanks! So, with my current sideboard, I wouldn't stand a chance against your Elf Beatdown deck. I created my sideboard with the current meta at my LCS in mind. I see that your Elf Beatdown deck is from a previous standard constructed format. I would include board wipes in my sideboard if your deck was in the meta. As of right now though, I'd just have to side in the shock and the weirds and hope I can hold off. If there was a deck like yours in the current meta, I'd add some Ratchet Bomb and Anger of the Gods to the sideboard.

Did you run this at FNM again Friday I'm curious how it did:)

February 2, 2014 3:33 p.m.

Zyrxii says... #23

I have not yet. I plan to think it over and test it on Lackey more before taking it to a FNM. Once I take it to FNM, I will post the update, clear the comments, and fully commit to playing this tricky transforming deck.

On the bright side, I went to the Pre-release and got myself a Mogis, God of Slaughter and a Temple of Malice . Seeded White, built U/W control, and went 3-1 _

February 2, 2014 10:06 p.m.

haha nice i pulled a stormbreath and a xenagos (the new god one) went red/green and place 2nd out of like 32 ppl and the 1st place was another red green lol
