Work in progress. How I came up with this deck was first netdecking an Esper Control list, then I replaced the white cards with what I thought was appropriate.
Sphinx's Revelation --- Opportunity
Lingering Souls ---
Molten Birth
Blood Baron of Vizkopa --- Olivia Voldaren
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
--- Tamiyo, the Moon Sage
Azorius Charm
--- Izzet Charm
Supreme Verdict --- Mizzium Mortars
It's pretty obvious that the first 2 substitutions are inferior, but the last 4 aren't strictly worse. They're just different cards. I looked at the overall weaknesses and tweaked the list over and over and added in some red.
Win conditions:
The gameplan for this deck is to clear the board with spot removal and ping with your
Molten Birth
tokens and Augur of Bolas. Use your draw power in the midgame to dominate with Rakdos's Return, AEtherling, or a planeswalker. Opportunity is a nice substitute for Sphinx's Revelation and with all of your removal, lifegain isn't too important to have.
In the late game, you want to have their hand clear and living from the top of their decks. Against decks such as Jund, Hexproof, and Reanimator, siding in the counterspells is the plan. I decided to exclude them from the mainboard because in most other matchups I have enough removal to not need them.
I find that this deck can handle The Rock, Jund, and Gruul pretty well. I need to do some more testing against Aristocrats and Reanimator.
My worst matchup is against UWR because of their lifegain and they have Snapcaster Mage. I cannot outrace them. Mill and counterspells from the sideboard seems to be the best plan of attack, and just stall from there. I was thinking of adding Psychic Spiral but it might be too narrow.
