My guess is that Forsaken City is an "in case of emergency" card for when the opponent played out too aggressively and you need the Stasis lock asap.

I agree with you though that the lock has too much disadvantage. A set of Chain of Vapor can prolong your lock much longer than feeding off from a Forsaken City and can offer more versatility. I'd personally run just one at max if I'm splashing in another color.

Since there are no creatures in the deck, maybe a board wipe like Pyroclasm can be in order since Zoo, Merfolk and other fast decks can be a real pain pre-lock?

As this is a Statis deck, have you ever considered Meditate ? I don't know much about Statis decks, but it seems like it would fit.

instead of ral zerak you could use Chronatog to lock the board down

Saljen: the reason that i play 3x Force of Will is because i only have 3, and I'm trying to avoid buying the 4th :P. badbadbad is correct about why i use Forsaken City . I have to play a modern land base because I cant afford fetches or duals.

ihatepeace22: Meditate sounds interesting, im gonna try 2. Taking out 2 Impulse .

uniplatiperson To use Chronatog i would need Frozen AEther too, making it a 3 card combo instead of 2. Also Ral Zarek is more fun :).

I have done many many play tests with this deck now and, although it may seem silly, I feel Curse of the Pierced Heart would be strong. It is cheap, almost nothing of legacy staples can get rid of it, and in a Stasis deck like this, it can EASILY become a win condition. The clock it immediately provides will also start to put them in a mind state of racing you if they know they have little to no answers to it. What do you think??

Sorry, I'm not super fluent on sets after Urza's saga and pre innistrad, but did play stasis decks way back in the day. How do you lock down creatures? I.e. Kismet or Blind Obedience ? I'm too lazy/tired to look through the list and want spoon feeding!

Use the +1 of Ral Zarek to tap an opponent's permanent and untap one of your Islands for the Stasis upkeep cost.

Ral Zarek is also a very effective control card since you can tap crucial cards like AEther Vial and the like, burn opponents for 3 (and get rid of Jace, the Mind Sculptor ), or simply screw the mana sources of your opponent by tapping them with Stasis online.

Have you considered Dragonmaster Outcast as a wincon? For a 1-cmc guy that works well during a lock, he can draw out an opponent's counterspell or Abrupt Decay and hits back hard when unattended.

If you're in for the long game, even just one of this guy could be useful if mana supply is tight.

if the shuffle of ponder really matters so much put in fetchs for the shuffle and add in the brainstorms

Some sort of unsummon permanent effect would be good. In playtesting, I've found that if they have a planeswalker on the field during your lockdown, it's not really a lock down. It allows them to get whatever ultimate they like, since you can't do anything about it. Liliana of the Veil was especially good at killing the deck if it gets out before your combo and since it costs less, it usually does. Boomerang or Void Snare would work well to ensure that you can remove things you don't want them to have on the field during your lock.

You could use Elixir of Immortality so that you don't deck out. Very interesting :]

Thanks for your comment :) I had Feldon's Cane before, but i never got to use it. Jace makes sure they will deck themselves first :)

PheonyxXx: I think Ponder is better when you don't have fetches..

How well does this work with no fetches/duals? I am thinking of turning my monobue stasis into ral stasis. And how do the lotus petals seem to be working?

Also, Thwart is the best thing ever.

smackjack says... #21

It works well without fetches. You have 4 red cards and 12 red mana sources, so color fixing are rarely a problem. I would like the fetches for the shuffling tho. Lotus Petal is great, it lets you play Ral Zarek turn 3 while also providing the red mana you need. I used Thwart before, its a good budget alternative to Force of Will .

I play FoW and Thwart as 4 ofs in mine, though again, it's mono U so more islands and more reliance on Forsaken City

Also, Misdirection ? I find I have a lot of problems with Abrupt Decay

Nice i will add Misdirection to my sideboard :)

I see your point with the lack of fetches and brainstorm. But any consideration to the Counterbalance , Sensei's Divining Top combo?
