Remember Myrs? The artifact creature that never made it into affinity... the mana dorks that wouldn't hold up in modern... the Myrs have a tragic story.
OR SO YOU THOUGHT.
I, Ladies and Gentlemen of tappedOut, I bring to you the COMBO deck that will tear apart the modern format. The all-star here is Myr Retriever and it is used in both ways to win with this fun, and cheap to play, combo deck. Let's get started with some general uses for cards.
Altar of the Brood. This lovely artifact is just screaming combo isn't it? It's ability will be later abused with an infinite amount of ETB triggers for an infinite amount of mill,
Myr Retriever really is the champ of this deck allowing us to retrieve another target artifact from our graveyard to hand ... all without paying mana. But we will get to that.
Trinket Mage Is an obvious addition to this deck. This little guy helps us find one of our most important combo pieces being Altar of the Brood, and then acts as a disposable blocker until its time to combo.
Heartless Summoning brings this deck together. We will go over exact combo details later, but keep in mind this card allows us to cast Myr Retriever for free and gets in in the graveyard for later targets! (see how this can come together...)
Gifts Ungiven Can be used to find missing combo pieces and put a Myr Retriever directly into the graveyard with is very strong.
Cards such as Muddle the Mixture, Shred Memory, Serum Visions, Gitaxian Probe, and Street Wraith are all used to find your combo pieces. Don't be afraid to dig to find pieces on the turn you want to go off!
THE COMBO:
The first part of the plan involves getting Heartless Summoning onto the battlefield and then casting Myr Retriever. It goes to the graveyard, but this only increases the power of this deck. We can now abuse a free casting cost of a second Myr Retriever to make an infinite cast combo. The myrs DO enter the battlefield, and they ARE permanents so this leads to ... Infinite mill off of altar of brood!!
The second way this deck can be played is going the storm route. The first step is to transmute, draw, or dig for a Bitter Ordeal. Once these pieces have been acquired, follow the same steps as above to generate a huge gravestorm count and then end the game with a Bitter Ordeal
Hope you enjoyed reading about this deck and as always suggestions and comments are always more than welcome. Hopefully this deck will be the one to bring back the myrs in such a way it will leave your opponents BROODing!
