Yeah, I am already looking to get my hands on a foil copy of Treasure Cruise, but it's so friggin' expensive!

I really really want to play Thassa, God of the Sea in this deck and I do have a spare copy of her, but as of today I haven't found a truly good story to go with her. Thanks for reminding me of her galstaff. I'll put her into the mayboard for now.

Bident of Thassa? A pirate always loots the towns he raids and can taunt his enemies into attacking from a poor position. Having stolen the sea god's treasure could also tie in Thassa, God of the Sea.

Interesting idea Acclamation, thanks a lot for the input! For the time being I feel more happy playing the Coastal Piracy that is already in the deck. I'll keep an eye on Bident of Thassa and put the card into the maybeboard for now as it is a strictly better version of Coastal Piracy in EDH, but Coastal Piracy is just sooooo much flavor for the deck. :-)

I finally got my hands on a foil copy of Treasure Cruise now that people are unloading the card after the ban. I cut Larceny for TC. Even though Larceny fit perfectly into the deck flavorwise it never had much of an impact because I only play 18 creatures.

Charisma? Can't have a pirate-commander and not have his dastardly charm on display!

Charisma is a card I had in the deck at first but cut it again. It is full of flavor for my commander, I agree, but it has only one real target in the deck where it can really shine (Pirate Ship). Thus the card more often than not just sat in my hand and didn't do anything. I'll put it on the wants list, maybe I'll play it again someday. Thanks for your suggestion Genesis94.

Fifteen men on a dead man's chest, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

Drink and the devil and be done with the rest, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

The captain was skewered on a bosun's pike

The first mate brained with a marlinspike

the cooky's throat was marked belike, gripped by fingers ten

and there the lay all good dead men

Quietus Spike, Surestrike Trident or Runechanter's Pike for the weapons and maybe Asphyxiate?

Some of the Cephalids might fit also (creepy looking things...Cephalid Constable is a favorite of mine).

Hey, thanks for your comment, carpecanum.

Quietus Spike could be put in as a Marlinspike, a hand tool with multiple uses usually carried by deck hands. It doesn't match with the deck's general theme of stealing or card drawing though. But I will keep the card in my mind.

I haven't heard of any pirates using Tridents or Pikes as their weapon of choice, so Surestrike Trident and Runechanter's Pike are not an option for the deck. I am still looking for cards that fit the role of a Boarding Axe, Cutlass, Pistol or Belaying Pin and also help the deck's main theme of stealing or card drawing. Also anything that can be used as a bottle of rum or a barrel of rum. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Most (all?) Cephalids are wizards, and my pirates will only put up with those stinkin' spellslingers if they really have no other choice or they can gain a huge advantage for themselves. :-)

Why not Elixir of Immortality ? The finest brew around! I've seen the art of this altered into bottles of Rum and other drinks before, so it makes sense as an inclusion.

Also may I suggest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R75zAYCxjY As a theme tune? :p

With Dragons of Tarkir coming out soon, it may be worth adding Hedonist's Trove

I don't want to be that guy, but you do realize that Ramirez DePietro is an uncommon, not rare, right? Sorry if I completely destroyed your confidence, but I have serious OCD and I just needed to point that out. However, if people at your lgs are cool with it, it doesn't even matter.

A lot of the legends from the actual Legends set weren't really rares, mainly because they weren't even good enough to be rares in the first place. I guess they just wanted to get some lore out there.

Anyway, after all that, I like the deck. I'll definitely +1. :D

What does it being a rare or not have to do with anything?

July 1, 2015 11:26 a.m.

SirFowler says... #15

I thought you could only use rares for your commanders. Or am I wrong?

Edit: I was wrong. It's just any legendary creature. Says so here.

The pikes are the spear looking boat hooks that were used to pull boats together, to the shore or to grab flailing lines. In combat they were used mostly to prevent boarders.

Elixir of Immortality as rum?

It's kinda useful...

carpecanum says... #18

... actually that would fit perfectly with his flavor text...

Thanks for your comments people and your +1's, I really appreciate it! I'll try to get my hands on a foil Elixir of Immortality, but I am really not sure what to cut for it, maybe Mask of Riddles? Do you have any suggestions?

July 2, 2015 4:34 a.m.

sonnet666 says... #20

Mask of Riddles is still a very good card even if it's not on point flavorwise.

I'd cut Mogg Cannon. It doesn't seem to be that useful, and even though it's a cannon it doesn't really feel very pirate-y.

Also why is there no Larceny in here? Seems on point for both flavor and mechanics.

July 2, 2015 8:01 a.m.

Tomahawk-Bang says... #22

@sonnet666: Larcenyused to be in the deck and it greatly fit it's theme flavorwise. However, the card just never did anything for me so I decided to cut it and added a Treasure Cruise for it.

Ok. I can see how it might not be that great in a deck that doesn't spawn lots of creatures.

I swear this pirate looks like he belongs in the unhinged set, or at least on the grixis plane. Stormtide Leviathan would be a great addition to this deck, as most of your creatures syngergise well with him once he locks the field down.

Tomahawk-Bang says... #25

Interesting suggestion Quicksilver, I had never thought of Stormtide Leviathan's synergy with my islandswalkers and the War Barge I have in the deck. I'll see that I get my hands on one and will try it out for sure!
